Thought I'd mention, the price is allready starting to drop on these a little. Went in a local store here in Nashville friday called Electronics Express.... They are a smaller locally owned chain but usually have the newest stuff and carry high end things....
They had it on sale last week for $1799... with free financing and all that stuff.... I told the salesman I wanted it, but it wouldn't be in my budget for a couple months. He gave me a card and told me to just call him when I was ready, and that he could match that price whether it was on sale or not. THAT means the markup on this unit is very high, so it should be negotiable.... and with them selling on ebay for $1500 and up, that should give some indication what retailers are paying for them.
I'm hoping to have the funds ready sometime in the spring of '05, maybe by then there will be even more price drops and some more models from different brands to compare it to.

Glad you enjoy, did you get all the wires hooked up, if not i have found the speed senser wire and reverse wire, you need the speed sensor for several things but the most notice is the slope angle(in the guages)wont work....
NAV coverage question...
anybody used the nav to check the coverage around Deal's Gap? Does it show anything in Fontana Village for instance, or the crossroads of time?
If it shows anything there then it's got a killer database...
digital images of the unit's display on the area, if it shows anything, would be appreciated.

i know it shows the deals gap resort(the motorcyle hotel by the crossroads) i already put that in there, but i didnt check to much other stuff i think my old one had fontana village so it should be in this one as well...
Any new installation steps/photos available on this unit. I'm thinking about getting it.
I currently have the HK upgrade and was wondering if the HK amp would be able to be integreated into the N1. Is there any special hookup required to take advantage of the steering wheel buttons?
Thanks for all info.

I bought the AVIC last night
After months of leaning towards the Kenwood kvt-915dvd head unit, I ordered the Pioneer AVIC unit last night, along with the XM radio unit, Terk antenna, SWIX, and Dynamat Extreme for sound dampening the cavities underneath the seats.
What swayed me in the end was simply that the Pioneer had more fun gadgets, like G-force measurements and the rear view camera. It didn't hurt that it doesn't have an extra navigation box that I had to find a place to stow.
So, all the gear will arrive next week. Then I begin the arduous task of installation. Never did a stereo install before.
Looking forward to the navigation and satellite radio during long drives in the boonies and mountains! :-)

whew, just finished install
Man, that was a loooong weekend. Just finished up my AVIC-N1 install. This was by far the most complex car thing I've ever done. Had to call Crutchfield about 15 times and consulted NAM about 15 times too.
I feel good that I know a lot more about pulling off Mini pieces and getting them put back on right (in most cases :smile
.
Finally got everything installed and tested. The hideaway box and the XM unit are under the passenger seat.
The GPS and XM satellite antennas are mounted just under the front dash, out of eyesight, but still with a good view of the sky. Really clean antenna install, if I do say so myself.

DanStoren..
I have the same setup. I placed my two antennas on the passenger side by opening the end front dash panel and placing them up in that corner.
Did you place in the same location?

I put two strips of velcro on the underside of the pliable metal plate that came with the GPS antenna, fixed it there just to the right and forward of teh center air vent, put both antennas on that metal plate, secured their wires using two of those metal clips that came with the GPS antenna, then fished the two wires down the side into the passenger footwell, then under the carpet, back to the cavity under the passenger seat.
Did you have any problems with your airbag light coming on? I did but think it's due to the fact that I turned the ignition on while the seat was out. Have since took it to the dealer to have them clear the fault code.
I may need to get back under the passenger seat to hook up a cable to the AV inputs. Wanted to make sure I can take the seat out, hook up the wires and then put the seat back in without turning the airbag light on again.
