changing stereo to after market
I have an 02 mini that the dealer had for hours today trying to figure out why the radio would not pick up a signal. after trying two different antenna parts and changing the stereo out, which didn't work they determined it was in the wiring someone and stated it would be cheaper to buy an after market stereo. I am not sure which type to go with, does anyone have any suggestions? thanks
You have asked one of the most open ended questions one can in cars. I'll do my best to help, but I'm going to need a few pieces of information.
1.) Price Point - How much are you willing to spend?
2.) Features - What features would you like other than AM/FM/CD? MP3? iPod/iPhone connectivity? Bluetooth hands free?
3.) Installation - Will you be installing this yourself or will the dealer?
And lastly,
4.) Loyalty - Do you have a brand you're particularly fond of or will this be your first aftermarket car stereo?

I plan on trying to sell the car after this so I don't want to invest a lot more $$ probably $200
definitely am/fm/cd
I believe we are going to try and install but that is still open
I don't have a particular brand - I just want something that sounds good and fits right
I really appreciate your advice

A real quick search gives me the Kenwood KDC-352U. It's a single DIN (factory sized) radio with AM/FM/CD/MP3 playback. Supports Pandora and MP3's via the iPod/iPhone. It's display color can be changed to amber to match the Mini's factory interior lighting.
From Crutchfield it's $120. That includes the installation kit which would normally cost extra. So it's well under your budget and should include all installation instructions to make it easier for you.
Does this help?

Honestly, I don't believe so. Depends on how it's wired up and I confess I don't know enough about the Mini's factory audio system to answer that. I'd consult with Cruthfield. Their over-the-phone support is amazing.
