Down the road (March/April hopefully.) I plan on installing a 10" sub and an amp in my '06 R50. I have the base (Boost, I think?) stereo. A local installer is hooking me up with the amp/sub/installation, but I was thinking about doing speakers too. I have seen references to Polk Audio door speakers making a big difference. Are these the best bet? Something else? Can anyone point me in the right direction? It might be a good first step while I save my pennies for the bulk of the project.

 

What is your budget? There are many, many options out there.

Right now, I have these, http://www.hybrid-audio.com/products/02-imagine.html (6.5", installed in component mode with the factory locations), and they sound amazing, even with only aftermarket Alpine HU power.

You need to listen to other cars (preferably MINIs), to see what speakers sound best to you. There are things you can do yourself, that will help sound quality, like the addition of vibration dampening material (e.g., http://secondskinaudio.com/vibration-mat/damplifier.php) to the door.

 

I had Polk audio speakers in a previous car and loved them. They are reasonably priced as well. The biggest improvement you can make to a car stereo is replacing the stock speakers. the next step is an amp then lastly is the sub. There are many many choices for speakers. It just depends on what your budget is.
