i am putting an alpine 10" type r with a rockford fosgate punch amp in my r56 and i was curious about the hifi head unit. do i have to put an aftermarket headunit in or can i still use the stock one?

You can use the stock head unit but there is no specific subwoofer output and depending on exactly which system you have as to where it connect to, to get the proper out puts for the subwoofer. I.E. with a base system (non HiFi or HK) then you do no wan to use the rear outputs.

I suggest you do a bunch of reading in this section all of you questions probably have been answered in one or more threads.
