utilizing my iphone as "info center"?

Hey guys

I've read through the stickies, but I am having a hard time finding this info. I am looking at a 2011 JCW vert that has USB/BT but no nav, connected or sat, as well as no HK. Slightly disappointed at the option load, but the price is right. The rub here is that I can't even see the car yet so I sure can't ask anyone any questions.

What I am wondering is what my iPhone experience will be like.

1) If I plug in to the USB jack, will the iphone go into "dead head" mode and just sit there dumbly, or can I run TomTom on it?
2) I tested my iphone with the sirius app and it's adequate for talk, I was wondering if anyone uses it cabled in? Again, can this run while being charged and driving?
3) Is the Iphone just aux, or is there another mode that integrates it, allowing me to skip tracks and utilize it in another way?

Thanks again

You must use the genuine Mini usb/3.5mm plug and then when your iPhone is connected to this, the TomTom app will make its announcements thru the stereo. You can run other apps like Rev as well no problem. All the features of the phone run normally.

When the iphone is connected you will have an ipod option for your audio source. From this you can scroll thru your playlists or songs.
The one thing I can not do is get the iphone to play songs in a random order ie shuffle.
That is how it works in my 2008 MCS with bluetooth and phone option (although I dont use that). My phone charges when connected as well.
Biggest pain is having the cable connected and having the phone sitting in a cup holder.
I plan at some stage to add a usb extention cable and audio extention cable and sit the phone in the arrest. I will connect the cable by tapping into the loom somewhere yet to be determined so that I don't have cables in the cockpit and I can thus use the cup holder for holding a cup!

Don't have Sirius in Australia so can't answer that.

Thanks Bearwood for the detailed reply. I use nav only a few times a month, so having it integrated isn't worth 2750$. The other thing I am finding is that most times I just use a 32gb flash drive for music and leave it in the car. I don't need twitter in the car, that's just an accident waiting to happen.
