The controls will no longer work. You must get an interface adapter to convert the MINI's control signals to the particular brand of HU you are running. The best method would be to use a direct interface kit. However those typically are for more name brand HUs. There's a universal kit like this:

You'll have to place the IR blaster in a location that can control the HU which means it could be less reliable if something gets placed near the IR blaster or receiver.
