Audio/iphone problem

I'm new to the board and scoured for a long while to find an answer to my problem, but didn't find anything....

When I connect my iPhone 3g (3.1.3) to the car with the Y-Cable, the car recognizes it and I'm able to scroll through my playlists and songs, but when I actually choose a song to have it play, no audio comes through the speakers. The screen on my iPhone turns white with a picture of a an ipod and the words "accessory attached" underneath.

My first attempt had the USB only plugged in. It didn't work so I plugged in the AUX as well. That didn't work, so I pulled out the USB and switched to the AUX on the main panel. My iPhone switched from the white screen to the regular iPod functions, but when I press play, still no sound at all.

The volume on the iPhone and the stereo itself is raised as high as possible, but I'm hearing nothing. Bluetooth is fine and i don't care about whether it charges or not. I just want to hear my music...

Any suggestions?

The Y-cable is supposed to be connected to both the USB and AUX. Turn off the volume limiter in the iPhone settings. I believe input should be set to AUX on the NAV screen. If that doesn't work, maybe you have a bad cable?
