How do I test an amp?
I need to find something portable that has rca out plugs ( besides my headunit / cleansweep - to see if the amp will amplify. It has power and speakers... Any thoughts ?
later...
Well I found a cable that plugs into an IPOD headphone jack with 2 RCAs on the other end. I pluged it into the amp and still no sound. I guess I've located the problem.
Anyone know if its is practical to repair an Alpine PDX 4.100 or DIY info? I think I only paid about $125 on Craigslist, but perhaps it was no bargain. It still lights up with the blue OK light and the fuses look OK too. However, I still wonder if there isn't something simple that I'm missing....

If it sounds too good to be true...
You could buy a new one here and if you get your money back for the first one it wouldn't be a HUGE hit.
I would call the guy that sold it to you. Would a repair cost close to $350? In that case you should buy a new one. I've never repaired an amp, but if you crack it open make sure everything has been unplugged for long enough to let any capacitors discharge. You don't want to kill yourself. I would ask around at local audio shops.

Are you sure the amp is getting the 'remote on' signal required to turn the amp on? The head unit in the car sends the remote on signal.
Did you check inline fuses for the amp, and the fuse on the amp?
Not enough detail provided.
