Navigation & Audio Want to upgrade from Hi-Fi to Harman Kardon

realoem.com seems to show an additional tweeter in the rear... is this true? And what's with the "sound guide" (item 7)? Is this piece new relative to a 2009 R56 with the hi-fi system?
Here's what I see as a comparison for part numbers:
Front
Tweeters: 65133422640 (HiFi) ... 65139204492 (HK)
Mids: 65139143153 (HiFi) ... 65139169690 (HK)
Woofers: 65133422637 (HiFi) ... 65139194841 (HK)
Rear
Tweeters: 65133422639 (HiFi) ... 65139204493 (HK)
Woofers: 65133422636 (HiFi) ... 65139194842 (HK)
Sound Guide: [n/a] (HiFi) ... 65139212070/65139212071 (HK, left/right)
Amp: 65123454362 (HiFi) ... 65129217877 (HK)

There are tweeters in the rear of the R57 convertible too. They are embedded into the plastic side panel. I did not replace them with HK but kept the original HIFI tweeters both front and rear. I kept the HIFI amp too.
The sound guide looks like a mounting plate to work with the 6" x 9" woofer. The R57 has round rear woofers and they have funky thick plastic "extensions" as part of the speaker to force the speaker to press against the grill.
I'd bet that the HK 6" x 9" will bolt onto the existing sound plates.

Wow… I ordered a set of HKs from across the pond, expecting them to arrive in a couple weeks.
Next freaking day at my door in Arizona!
I didn't select any fancy teleportation shipping option! Just the default (didn't see any other choices)… not that I'm complaining or anything.

Let me know when you receive them, make sure they got there safely

Basically, I changed the A pillars, the door mid range, the door woofers and the rear woofer 6x9. I did not change the rear tweeter. Think I was the first to source and do this and wow what a difference - highly recommended if you want a mid cost plug and play with superior sound quality.
My speakers are well run in now and sound simply amazing. I haven't change to HK amp as it is a big investment with no guarantee that it would actually work.

And everything looks fine so far. Guess now I have something to do tomorrow.
I looked at this as well and don't know why it wouldn't work… but I saw the $900 price tag at realoem.com and decided I didn't really need it that badly.

Ah, now I see why they sold the front tweeters with new A-pilars…

Don't screw up like I did. I mistakenly ordered R-56 HK A Pillar covers mistakenly thinking they were the same for my R-57 convertible and they are very different to allow for the top latch mechanism I may try removing the HK tweeters and installing them in my existing A pillar covers - but I won't have the cool HK logo.

Another thing I'm going to try to do (may have to make a 2nd pass at removing all the panels, as my order is delayed) is throw on the insulation grommets the BMW door panel clips have.
I already did that to the passenger side door, will absolutely do it to the driver side door, and plan on throwing them on any other clips in the back they will fit on in the hopes of getting rid of some of the small rattles I get on the rough roads out here.

Regarding the tweeters in the back... I can't find them anywhere for order online, but I just got word that my (not quite local) dealer can order them direct from Germany.
Over $90 each, though. (ouch!)
The sad thing is I'm slightly tempted to pull the trigger despite the price, just to complete the set...
Or maybe I'd be better off ordering the front tweeters and soldering on the longer wires from my current hi-fi rear tweeters...
Or maybe there isn't enough improvement over the hi-fi to really matter anyway?

You'd be surprised actually, i've run the HK speakers since May this year and they do make a massive difference with the hifi amp alone. They are very very good on their own without the amp. It's a well worth while upgrade.
The HK amp is awesome though, another improvement and very loud indeed
Price, well i'm not going to say, it was less than the RRP of £500 anyway
