Thanks,

Ahh, that explains it, and it also explains why only the bluetooth capable models can be connected.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

Ok here goes: Go to garmin.com...click Support....Click Software...Click WebUpdater for device software...Step 1..download and install webupdater....Click on download..then run...Click next, accept terms, then Next...Click done...connect your gps to computer...click find device. Hope this helps everyone that is a little confused about this.

Thanks for the info. I have a 265T thats supposed to work with it so I ordered it last night. I ordered it from amazon for 133.00 and it should be here on saturday. I am really excited about this, I have been looking at an onboard obdII display device and wasnt so happy about having my gps and another box splashed around tach. So this really fits the bill and is a whole hell of alot cheaper. Question though can you choose what guages you want to be displayed on a single screen?

Yes, you get to chose which gauges you want displayed, total of 5, one being a larger display in the middle.

Sweet, I was looking at the PLX gauge and the VI performance monitor both are around 350.00. I am stoked if this thing delivers.

BE AWARE:
My Garmin 265WT is NOT compatible with this thing!
I received it today, only to find out that in my updated firmware 265WT there is no option in menu "HD connect" required to be hooked up with this Gizmo!!!!
What a shame!
Garmin states that all these different GPS unit are compatible with "ecoRoute" (true, mine IS) but this is different from "ecoRouthe HD".
So, I am returning this piece of sh**, and waiting for something else, since I don't want to buy a new GPS...

Correct, I would assume that only those listed on the amazon page are compatible:

Product Compatibility
  • nüvi 1690, 1490, 1390, 1370, 1260
  • ecoRoute HD is compatible on all cars and light trucks made after 1996

ecoRoute = Software package only and only give estimated data based on what the user puts in for fuel price and some sort of mpg calibration. Her is a link to the manual
http://www8.garmin.com/software/ecoR...supplement.pdf

ecoRoute HD = a hardware/Software solution that sends OBDII data to the compatible GPS. (see list in post above)

True.

While researching about this I found on numerous places hat ecoRoute HD is compatible with "most current"' Garmin models including the few that you listed above and what needed is firmware upgrade.
See link on Garmin's site:
http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/sit...oom/20100105-4
Direct quote from the page:
"...Drivers can then view Diagnostic Trouble Codes – with on-screen descriptions of some error codes – and reset the “check engine” light. ecoRoute HD will be compatible with many current and future nüvi models, including 1260, 1370, 1390, 1490 and 1690....".

It is a bit misleading to have two different things named so similar (one is a software other a hardware/software package)...

Too bad...

In the end if I cant get it to work I will purchase a new gps. It would still be cheaper than the other options I have been looking at. Plus my parents really like my current gps so I would give it to them. I have seen conflicting info regarding the HD some sites say it supports the 205 series others dont.

They seem to be looking at March 2010.
C'mon guys, you have to pay attention here. As was quoted earlier.....the ecoRoute HD is compatible with the following models::::::::1260, 1370,1390,1490 and 1690...........no others at this time!!!!!!!!!

Again, see my Garmin link for the quote: "ecoRoute HD will be compatible with many current models"....
If they list only few by name as you put it what are the rest of "many current models"???

In Agreement

TaTa , I totally agree with you, very misleading by garmin and the operative word, I think is the "will be" compatible with many models. Maybe they figure everyone will buy the HD module, find out it doesn't work with their present unit and run out and buy a compatible unit. Very confusing, to say the least. I was just hoping I wasn't misleading anyone with my software update link. I have a 755T, a Zumo 660 and the 1690 units. I knew ahead of time that the HD module would only work with the 1690 and is the reason I bought the 1690 fairly recently. Please don't shoot the messenger.

I sent a message to Garmin priduct support a day of two ago and here is the responce I just received:

Jim,

As of right now the HD OBD reader is only compatible with the Nuvi 1260,
1390, 1390T and 1490T series. There may be an addition of older
models, but at this time it has not been announced.

I just sent Gary a nice message saying that they did mislead us a bit on this and I think they should consider adding the older models, otherwise they just made Scan Guage a lot of money.

It would be a good idea to show them that the demand is there. I'm no computer whiz, but it seems to me this has got to be a software issue rather then hardware.

Do you have the HD yet? If so what do you think of it? Don't keep us in the dark.

Yes, I have it.

Jim, yes I installed mine a couple days ago, real easy install and set up, still am thinking how I will secure the module to footwell area, didn't bother with that as I just wanted to see what it would do. I have only used the gauges mode, you can monitor intake air temp, coolant temp, battery and charging info, mass airflow rate, timing advance, emisions, throttle position and engine load and intake manifold pressure. I believe you can also go to another screen to display acceleration, braking and speed, haven't been there yet. So it'll do a lot of things, just don't look for information in the manual that comes with it, only tells you how to set it up. My only question is.....is the intake manifold pressure the same as boost pressure????? Of course this unit will also help you attempt to get better mileage more efficiently but I'm doing pretty well on my own when I'm not in Sport mode, haha. Hope this helps. I think, for the money it was worth it.

Thanks, glad to hear that it does what it says it does. Have fun with it.

Its not exactly the same but just like the scan guage guys you can use it. If you check to see what the pressure is below 2500 rpm you can use it as a base for when you get the turbo to spool up and then subtract the number from the one on screen. It might take a couple hours to figure out the best baseline number but it should work fine.

Zug4zig do you like the 1690? Do you use the google search? I am debating that one and the much cheaper 1390t so I wanted to know if you think its worth the additional money.
