Navigation & Audio adding sub with mini head unit?? wire color codes...
Whats the best way to add a sub to the mini system.. NO its not the HK.. I really dont want to cut any wires from the orginal harness, is that possible?? i already had a sub in my pathfinder with orginal bose system and they cut in to the orignal wires.. it doesnt look bad but i just dont like the idea of that... Plus i would be afraid that i cut the wrong wires...
Does anyone know the wire color codes for the certain speakers???? thanks

Probably the easiest way to add a sub to the stock audio system is to add the Infinity BassLink in the boot.
It is a self contained powered Sub in a small enough box to fit into the left rear of the boot. This takes up less space and there is a built in amp of about 200 Watts which are combined into a very small plastic enclosure (1 cu.ft.)which saves space in the rear boot. That is much less space taken up than with a separate sub and amp.
If you ever want to add a sub to a stock system ask yourself where is the sub going to fit? What enclosure if going to fit- something off the shelf or a custom box? How am I going to power the sub cleanly? How am I going to control the sub volume (independently of the stock audio volume).
The rear boot is only so big so the choices are few. If you like subs then here are some options.
1. Cheapest that works fine is the Infinity Basslink for about $269 discounted at Circuit city- it does go on sale and they can do the install because if you mess up the wiring in a MINI (a BMW nonetheless) you will pay big bucks to put things back together. The BassLink comes with a separate remote volume control which mounts at the dash.
2. Keep the stock audio and add a JL stealthbox which is custom designed for the MINI from JL. Cost is higher because the sub unit itself is about $540 and is only sold through dealers. Plus you need a good amp to drive it and then the installation cost of everything plus cables for the amp and sub.
3. Keep the stock audio and add the sub of your choice (10 or 12"
and amp and put into a custom or other enclosure in the rear boot with appropriate filters and crossovers (these are built in to the BassLink and Stealthbox). This can be a very costly option.
See why in general it is better to get the H/K audio upgrade for $550 and have it included in your monthly car payments rather than pay all up front for an audio upgrade? Not everyone has a choice to get H/K but for the money it isn't a bad option. It isn't up to audiophile standards for the most part but close enough.

Wow! Custom designed to fit the Mini boot!
Car Toys in Denver recommended a JL Audio subwoofer, but I didn't ask which model specifically. I imagine this was it. They also recommended an Xtant amplifier, about 100W as I recall, and Focal speakers. Still tracking down exact model numbers. Car Toys say they can hide all the antennas. Ideally, I'd like to remove the rooftop AM/FM antenna and hide it too.
To round it out, I'm looking at a Kenwood: 915DVD head unit (flip up screen), Sirius satellite receiver, 20GB Music Keg, and KNA-DV3100 navigation.
Cheers,
Dan

Yes, it works quite well although for the price it is better matched for use with a better headunit and speaker set. It could still be added to the stock audio system but maybe turn down the sub volume a tad- a separate volume control for the sub is always good to adjust for individual songs.
The JL stealthbox and Xtant 4.4 amp in the rear boot looks like this:

For info on the BassLink see

Both JL Stealthbox (you can use any amp) and Infinity BassLink (has built in 200W amp) are 10" subwoofers.
If you are intested in the BassLink read this review about it and cost of installation/wires-
