Look at this custom Stealthbox on ebay for mini.

 

Why would they put two of these in this small car ? 1 8" w7 is way over kill for this car.

What kind of people does JL think buys a Mini?
They should include those crappy neon tube lights to complete the effect.


Is the Clubman box going to have 2 13" w7's ?

They should have put 1 10" w6 in a tiny box

or maybe make a enclosure for their 6" w3 to go in the 6x9 locations.

 

that looks like the original steath box, like for the r53's... urban mini one is a little cheaper though...

 

The "stealth box" was actually designed at one of their sound competitions in FL a few years back (07?). There was like 5 different groups of audiophiles competing to make the best sounding R56 all using what ever JL put in their parts bin (dunno what that bin included or excluded). So 1 group built what the "stealth box" is today and won the competition with it. JL then used there box design to sell to public. The box sounds incredible. It fits the car perfectly (acoustically). I have built a few box's for my mini (ported, sealed, dual/ single drivers) and cant get anything close to what the JL box does with its w7 drivers in it. If you want the best of the best buy this box. If you do not need the best then you can save a lot of money going elsewhere. But just remember there is a reason for its price tag... Its the best.

 

OK, having not heard either of the boxes or knowing the background of the box's you may have me there. but one would also debate that the stealth box's in the past both for the mini and other vehicles were designed not only to sound good but to be stealth as well. the box for the r56 is far from stealth and you lose the functionality of the boot. i wouldn't want to put say, my grocery over my jl speakers if i needed to. don't think those bars would support all the tangibles... only my opinion and i probably will hold off on this for some time but the design of the urban mini box has stealth and function purpose to it... my only question would be, hows it sound???

 

I am going to disagree (this is what I love about Audio ).

Having installed many stealthboxes(and W7's) when I ran a car audio shop. I would say that stealthboxes do tend to sound good for the car no argrument there.
I would say that no matter what box you put it in the W7 still sounds like a w7 and I would never put a W7 in a SQ car.

So lets say we had a contest to see who could make a (brandX) sub sound best in a car , and designed a box after the winner :This does not mean it is a great route to go compared to other routes.

Now "Best" is a term that is hard to throw around lightly and I do like the W7 and think it serves its purpose but would never put "best",W7 and SQ in the same sentence.
My choice for best SQ sub is Focal 33WX2 or 21WX. If you have ever heard one in a car you will know and it have not don't it will be very bad for the wallet

Thanks for info on why they made that monster box! Its good to know how and why. Audio is all about personal taste, so not everyone will agree.

One thing we can all agree on though is

That thing is Huge!

 

holllllllyyyyy shizzlenutz batman... was that price over a 'G' for a sub??? you were not kidding when you said bad for your wallet!.. and forgive my newbie ignorance but what do you mean by the letters "SQ"

 

When audio equipment is expensive it can mean only one thing

It was handmade by virgins

SQ= sound quality

 

 

then they should have called it the best sounding box. not the stealth box.
