Not a lot of information in that post, FON.
It would be helpful if you could provide the BMW/MINI part numbers (or at least a link to your information source) The part number really simplifies things when you are talking to the MINI parts desk.

I'm subscribed to all the 3G related posts that I know of and haven't seen any yet- good to know that the 1st gen one works at least. I suppose that the snap-in is phone specific and doesn't have an actual standard USB port?

Are any of you with these snap-ins coming to MINIs on the Dragon this year? The reason I ask... I'm curious to test to see if these snap-ins also work with the 1st Gen MINI Bluetooth cradles. I have the "big" OEM Bluetooth kit in my R53, and it accepts BMW/MINI phone cradles (dock in the armrest), but I don't know if they changed the design for the 2nd Gen MINIs or not, as far as the docking mechanism.

I'd love to check it out and see if they fit and work. It would really open up new phone options (I'm clinging to an old phone just to retain the dock capability).

The snap looks just like the non-usb one. The only difference I noticed is the presence, on the connection part, of two cylindrical golden parts, whereas the older one only has two wholes. I suppose these are the part that tranfer the "usb" infos. It's not an actual USB plug.
(Sorry this might not be very clear, I'm afraid I miss a bit of amercian vocabulary to describe those parts...).

No way I can get to the dragon... It's just soooooooo far away!

I'm not a specialist, but I doubt it. The snap-in is a BWM part, also fitting all BMW models, so I guess the size has to be kind of standard, so you don't have to change your car everytime you change phone or change phone everytime you change car... (well, that's only theory though, if everything was really well planned at BMW/Mini's, I wouldn't have had to buy two different snap-ins for the same phone in one month, standing that the one bought w/the car didn't do what it was suppossed to do ).

BMW has come out with a newer design that is going in some cars and is not backwards compatible to the current mini size snap ins. They made it wider to accommodate some of the newer smart phones as some of them will not fit in the current size snap in.

...which is exactly why I want to see one of the new adapters for myself and try it in my own MINI!

finally got my snap in and it works great! A little annoying on short trips because I have a protective case for my iphone and I have to take it off each time so the iphone can fit into the cradle but absolutely no complaints about the functionality.

I would love to make it to the dragon but unfortunately I just used all of my vacation days to go on my honeymoon. My only hope is convincing my manager that it would be great for me to go to promote Prestige MINI but that's unlikely.

My MA just checked again regarding availability of I-Phone 3G snap in unit. It is still backordered and still does not have a release date. BigMiniAl are you using the first Gen snap in on a 3G phone and if so how is it working.

It seems like we can get the "regular" cradles all day long, but there isn't any availability on the cradles that support smartphone prep.

Booo

Well, actually, I've been able to play a music video (Jason Mraz, offered by the ITS around Xmas). The sound is sent through the mini HiFi, but the video is not shown on the iPhone (nor in the mini off course because there's no screen...).
I suppose it depends on the video "format" (is that correct in english??). Some videos work, some don't. (Sorry, but I'm too lazy to search which format work or don't )
