No. The base is used to hold it in the lathe.

Maybe a dumb question BUT I buy the black acrylic holder. I go buy a dock, glue it to the black mount? What charger are you using in the picture and is it one of those that will let me play my iphone/ipod from it through the radio? If so I am interested! Took a long road trip today and had to use the map app and it drained my battery super quick. Would love a mount that I could charge the phone, listen to pandora from and use dynolicious!!!

I've used double-stick carpet tape to hold an Apple iPhone 3G Dock, or an Apple Universal Dock to the plex. It is quite secure. With much care, it can later be removed, if necessary. 3M double stick tape would probably work as well. I removed the rubber pad on the bottom of the dock before using the tape.

The Universal Dock comes with a remote that can be velcroed to the side of the console. As long as the hole in the front of the dock can "see" it, the remote can be used for next, previous, pause, play, or iPhone volume. The 3G dock is less expensive, but no remote.

The charger I use (don't have the USB option) is a Griffin PowerJolt V2 Car Charger. Got it from the local Apple Store. If you have the USB option, you don't need a charger. Use the MINI Y cable to connect to the back of a 3G dock and control it through the MFSW and/or NAV.
