the crossover that came with the new speakers? I would imagine since the stock speakers are separates they must have a crossover built into their wiring somewhere in the door, but not sure.

First: if you have the H/K upgrade, don't attempt to swap out the speakers; it'll give you trouble.

If you have the basic non-H/K system, then you can install the new speakers but DO use the crossover that came with them.
The "crossover" in the basic MINI is a single capacitor that does little more than protect the tweeter from overload.

The crossovers with your new speakers will be designed to work with the speaker components and will give best results if used as intended.
You'll wire the crossover to the bottom speaker feed, then feed the new speakers - just ignore the wires to the old tweeter.

I was searching about crossovers and found this thread.

GBMINI, what would one do about crossovers if they are getting a system that will replace the factory woofer and tweeter? The Infinity system I want includes a crossover. I know nothing about wiring speakers, I assume that they just go together neatly and the wires from the stock head unit will do ok?

Goes from the radio or amp to the cross over. Then from the cross over to the two speakers. Very easy to install. And there is plenty of places in the dash to stash the cross overs.

If you do NOT have the H/K upgraded stereo, then head unit to cross-over and cross-over to speakers is correct.
However, putting the cross-over in the car instead of the door will cause problems since you need four wires from cross-over to speakers (two to woofer, two to tweeter) and only two go across the door hinge (and very difficult to run extra wires!) ... so really, the cross-over has to go inside the door.

BUT:
If you have the H/K upgrade, installing non-factory speakers is more tricky. I suggest you avoid it unless you know exactly what you're doing.

I have the stock non H/K deck. Thank you for trying to help me. I'll be sure to attempt to detail my installation process for anyone else's future needs.
