Front Speaker Swap - First Try
I was successful in taking off the door liner, but I couldn't figure out how to swap out the speaker. The speaker I bought wouldn't fit (the screw holes didn't match) and I couldn't figure out how to hook up the leads.
Here's what I ordered.

When the 5.25s didn't fit, it didn't even try the 3.5.
What did I do wrong. Was this the wrong size? Can someone explain what I need to get the right size (maybe a model #) and then how to hook up the wire.
Thanks.

I used 6.5" and 4" Infinity Kappas. They fit fine. The 3.5" was very much too small. If anyone wants a pair of Infinity Kappa 32.7cf 3-1/2" 2-way car speakers...
I had to drill a couple of mounting holes for each, IIRC, but the speaker dia. was right at 6.5" & 4". However, the foam seal on the speaker cover grille (part of door panel) hit the rubber that connects the speaker cone with the bracket. The speakers came with a clear plastic ring that snapped over the speakers to protect this part in shipping. I snapped this onto the 6.5 speakers before putting the door panel back. They keep the foam off of the speaker, but still form a seal.
The wires have to be cut near the plug that goes into the factory speakers. Then either solder leads onto them, or use something like this:

You have to be careful with these that they can't flop around and cause a rattle with vibrations from the car or speakers.
I think it is the wires for the 6.5s that need to be fed back through the door to behind the speakers. There is a rubber plug that seems to just be filling a hole in the door. I put a hole in the middle of the rubber and passed the wires through it.
