Navigation & Audio What exactly does the Nav provide?
Birdman, LynnEl, please stop bickering. I've seen Birdman arguing with someone about spelling or some other insignificant, off-topic subject in about 1/2 of the threads in this forum. Nobody else cares whether you can spell or not. If you must argue about spelling, there's an off-topic section (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...splay.php?f=10) for that.
Thanks for the valuable suggestions, but please take your arguments elsewhere.

And with 12 posts, you have the authority to speak for the rest of the community. But, you are right; the spelling is a side issue. But, it was presented in the futile attempt to suggest to Birdman that perhaps he could be slightly misguided about things. Obviously, that isn't the case.
Both you LynnEl and Birdman need to cool it a bit. Take the personal attacks and bickering to PMs please. The rhetoric around here is getting old.
The USB only comes in European cars. I have not seen a US delivered car come with a USB port on it. That could change in 08, I would ask a dealer that question. In either case, the bluetooth option has nothing to do with the Bluetooth option. In the US, we currently get just a 1/8" audio in aux port. In euroland, apparently they get the 1/8" jack, as well as a USB port. Not sure why they get it, and we don't. Maybe somebody else can answer that.

And PS Lynn, I have never herd of "Garvin". But Garmin is a great electronics company, of which I could only wish I worked for.
Actually, he's the original poster, it's his thread, so yes, his request is relevant. He created the thread seeking useful information, and other members should be trying to focus on trying to provide that information, or staying out of the thread. The fact he only has 12 posts has no relevance. There's no "rank" or "authority" here simply because you have many posts.

This is NOT Birdman's thread...he hijacked it.
The Sirius channels are listed on the NAV screen, either ALL CHANNELS, or just the Presets you set up. Also displayed on the NAV is the Channel Name, The current artist name and the current song title.
Nav lets you check off your "favorites". If you are familiar with DirecTV you can set it up so only the channel you like are shown in the menu.
Someone else mentioned playing movies on it, but I've never heard this before. I think I actually saw some after-market software that you use to hack your nav to play DVDs. Does it play them with the stock nav?
I never said it was Birdman's thread. The comment was in reaction to LynnEl's dig at lukeinjax, who at the time had 12 posts, and is the one who started the thread.
Seems you misunderstood my point.

I had no luck with playing a movie, but I didn't get to involved with it other than sticking a standard DVD movie in the drive.
Any more posts like that will be deleted. Yes, you read that right.
Same goes for you LynnEl. Focus on the topic at hand and leave each other alone, please.
One more plus!
I, and probably others, are interested in the experiences/findings each has had with the new NAV, given the less-than-adequate documentation that comes with it. It is a very critical component in the human interface for the car. I personally get discouraged when any mention of the NAV turns the floor over the Birdman for his inane campaign. WE GET IT BIRDMAN! You've got a 15 page thread full of it...please leave it there. Can we move on?

Did your owners manual not cover the Nav? Mine is very detailed with every function explained.
MINI consumer documentation is like the documentation from many manufacturers, it is a minimal part of the budget. Information is "splatted". It may be here and there, but it's definitely not logically organized nor cohesive, which leaves doubt to the comprehensiveness. Just my opinion. My old Magellan manual is 1/2" thick...the MINI manual might have a dozen pages on the NAV.
I'm not planning on suing anyone over it, nor am I planning on arguing your opinion of the adequacy of the documentation.

And again, my post mentioned 10 total items, 9 of which were OTHER than the POI issue. YOU are the ones bringing that, and spelling and other issues up. Stick to the content, as I did. I gave my opinion, now lets here yours.
I also found the manual to be fine. Actually, there no real need to read it if your at all tech savy, most of the system you can figure out with trial and error. But it's a faster process if you first read it.

My observations on the benefits of the NAV have been expressed by others in this thread and by myself in your 15 page diatribe so I see no need to be redundant.
Yes, my manual covers the Nav and yes the functions are described in some manner. Are all of the functions covered? Who knows, that's what I'd like to see from other users. Are the functions explained clearly and logically...no, not in my opinion. Can I customize the display? Can I customize the POIs? Can I make the road names parallel to the displayed roads as the manual shows?

I haven't found any functions with the Nav that are not covered in the manual. Some of the pictures showing map displays are from the 1st Gen cars, which had a nicer map display with the road names always aligned with the road. 2nd Gen cars road names are nearly useless.
I don't get the arguing comment. I wasn't arguing with you.

My old Garmin 12 Map had a 1/2" manual like your Magellan. Today we are lucky if they include a PDF file to print out.
Don't get me wrong - it's a great GPS, but you really tell it's a "consumer" model, as opposed to some of their other units.
After my Garmin 276c, the Nuvi 660 was a disappointment, as far as what came in the box. No printed manual, no backup copy of the map data, and they're no longer including a copy of their most-excellent MapSource software with their GPS units.

If you call or email Garmin you should be able to get a copy of Mapsource City Nav. That is what shipped on the Nuvi 660. I was able to get a copy for free after emailing them and requesting it so I could pre-plan routes (not that you can actually upload them to the 660). It won't work with any other unit though. I bought City Nav NT V8 for my 76CSx.
Sorry for the thread-jacking lukeinjax.
I still say go for it and get the Nav system.
