I own a 2004 Mini Cooper S with the HK sound system. Actually, the headunit is working (I see the radio station, the cds eject, the ipod interface is working, etc) but the is no sound at all. Some times I can heard some distortion noises, but that's all. Is it the amp that blowed up??

 

Sounds like a fried amp. If you are still in warranty I would get it in quicky to get it fixed as this is not cheap out of warranty.

Is it a recurrent problem? Because my warranty finishes in 4 months and I know it’s very expensive...

 

I'm out of warranty and have just encountered the same problem. I hope that they are gentle.

 

I would love to know where I could send my headunit to be rebuilt. The CD player has started skipping and the volume **** is screwy.

 

Spoke to MINI today. They want 940.00 for the amp, than another 220.00 for labor/install fees. I decided to shop around. I found a amp for 390.00 at a local and reputable vendor (and it is a factory H/K amp). I'm going to install it myself, looking it over it really shouldn't be that hard.
