XM Solution

Contacted XM store and blitzsafe. No solution is in works for the XM interface for 2007 mini cooper as previously reported. So I got tired of waiting and bought a XM roady XT and plugged it in to the aux port. Sounds fantastic. I bought a roady xt home kit and will just forget about upgrading to the interface if it becomes available.

you know, I had several cars with XM, and even non-oem radio's with the XM Radio crap. hand's down, I stopped using thoes and starting useing my SKYFi in any car. I can scan what is playing without changing the channel, the Skyfi tells me both who and what is on . etc. etc. and the Skyfi2 lets me pause music and play back.. like tivo.

got the Aux adapter and was done!

Any pictures - how did you mount the radio and where is the Antenna?

Thanks.

The antenna is right behind the car antenna. The cable goes into the boot area, under the headliner and comes out at the tailgate grommet housing the tailgate cables. then it is routed in a hidden fashion all the way till it pops out just by the cubby area. No drilling etc. Totally hidden. I use the cigarette lighter adapter for power and right now just have it sitting in the passenger side cup holder. I have enough slack in the cables to move it a little while I figure out a permanent mounting solution. Thinking of trimming a plastic cup that fits in cup holder about 1 in higher than the cup folder, notched to just hold it in place slightly angled to face me. I don't want a permanent mounting solution because I'm buying the roady xt home kit. I bundled any excess cable (power, aux, and antenna) up with a cable tie and stuffed it neetly in the cubby area. Sound is fantastic.

Hi, I've got a Roady XT also. Had it hardwired by the stereo shop. It's mounted on a Belkin TuneDok for Roady and SkyFi:

it works really well, the reciever stays put and you can bend it any way you like so you can see the display.

A picture is attached (please ignore dirty MCS!!)

I'd like to stick with XM radio vs. paying for the Sirius service. I like XM's channels but am not happy with using the built-in FM transmitter. There's too much interference from local FM radio broadcasts, especially when traveling between cities.

How is your XM connected to your MINI radio/speakers? Is there some way to hard wire it instead of using the FM transmitter? Sounds like you had to install the antenna yourself?

I would also be interested in how you installed the antenna or is there an existing antenna lead in the car to utilize? My wife is addicted to XM and needs her XM Roady moved to her new Mini. Thanks very much.

I agree, we have no useable FM stations here to use the modulator. AUX jack is the way to go!

I do not use the fm transmitter for xm. Use the auxilliary connector in the dash. The aux connector uses the 3.5 mm stereo plug which goes straight to your radio and speakers internally. Same connector that would be used for the ipod. One of the reasons I selected the roady xt was that it has an auxilliary out connector (also required for use in the house in hooking to the stero reciever). The xm anntenna installation I let circuit city do. They can do it and hide the whole thing. But as I said the xm antenna would be placed just behind the car antenna with the cable going into the grommet hiding the hatch cables and under the headliner. (Make sure the cable comes out on the bottom side of the grommet) From there it is routed along the edge all they say to the cubby area. The wire is so thin that it easily hides in the gap between the rear windows and interior sides of the back seat. In the front seat area, you use the weather stripping of the door near the floor or roof line, then under the dash to the cubby area. I'd post pics, but its already hidden. I asked about using the existing antenna lead and that is not possible with any after market portable equipment.
