After reading this message I read through a lot of the mu site and I have a question, weird as it may be.
What's the purpose of that site? What's the common denominator?

I'm not really sure i fully understand your question(s)
But, I'll do my best to answer them. The common denominator is an interest in all things car related as anyone would probably guess, but at the same times we encourage discussion of people's others interests. We aim to provide a relaxed and laid back environment for these discussions and general socialization without a long grocery list of rules. I guess i would say that another common denominator would be friendship as well.... the people who post and make themselves at home generally become pretty close with the other members.
At the same time, the website is a host to a team of indviduals who are part of "µ". The nomination guidelines are on the website, but it follows an in-depth process that involves nomination and voting based mainly on characteristics, and to an extent, the level of your car. The team is a very close group of friends. Some of us have been friends for over 5 years now and always return to the site to chat. Our goal is to just represent the team positively, and be there for each other.
So i guess, in short, the common denominator is cars and friendship. And the purpose of the forum is to provide a place to hang out, talk, and have fun.
Let me know if i didn't properly answer/understand the question

So it's a forum for people with an interest in cars. Seems pretty general.
The only reason I seem to be somewhat confused is that any vehicular-based forum/newsgroup/bbs/list I've belonged to over the last dozen or so years has been more focused on a particular brand or type of vehicle.
And the <symbol that I don't have a key for> is for an exclusive group within the forum based on the characteristics you described.
Thanks for the clarification, Rally. =o)
