What happens in Vegas...
Hi All - I am in the Don't Like Vegas Club, but I love Mini's so I packed up my boy and went. We had a GREAT time! We did touristy stuff and went to the show at the park, (Loved the Zebra Moke) and did the Hoover Dam run in our MINI Impersonater (red Jeep Cherokee with white wheels& white roof with big blue star) We will be there next time with our RC MINI, and Moke too. Whomever is in charge now- please put me on your list! ~ Moke Girl

Count me in!!
I read the report on the event last year and decided I just have to go in 2005. I went to a PT Cruiser event in Vegas several years ago and had a blast with that, so it will be even better with the Mini bunch! I can be reached at scribe@teleport.com for event updates.

At last night's SCMC meeting, we were trying to fix a date for the 2005 AMVIV. Based on last year's post-event survey, the majority of respondants seemed to prefer either February or March. Trying to get a little warmer than last year, (and to give us a little more prep time) we're thinking March would be best.
That brought us to "when in March?" The 12/13th weekend, NASCAR is in town. Avoid at all costs. The 17th is St Patrick's Day which means that the 19th weekend counts as a holiday weekend in Vegas. The 27th is Easter. Holidays jack up the prices of rooms.
Based on all that, we are thinking March 3rd-6th, 2005. Can I get some input from potential attendees? You can post here or email me at geek@SinCityMINIClub.com
Thanks.

Think of us poor folks in Colorado. Last year the classic guys did not come because Vail Pass in winter is...snowy. Sure enuf, I went thru it there, in Glenwood Canyon, and in UT on the way / way back.
The later the better for us. Even the south route thru NM is iffy....we just have too much elevation and snow...
But I will be back, and will have 5-6 others with me at least. Please do something on Thursday and give us something to leave early for...

Interesting. Apparently, Doug now lives in Vegas. The 1st anyone in Vegas heard about this was when Dominic told us. So he has shown no interest whatsoever in contacting the Sin City club. Which is his right and privilege of course. Leads me to doubt his desire to "play well with others" however.
I did get email from him telling me that there is a large "adult industry" expo on the 3/5 weekend, but I just spoke to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, and as I remembered, the adult expo is in January, not march.
The weekend Doug wants to use is the period Conexpo is in town with 150,000 attendees, and the LVCVA told me to avoid that weekend.
All that being said, I'm not too worried about Doug's "Euro" car weekend.

Did they say 'bored'?
There were about 400 Mini's last year.... many owners were bored outta their minds the entire weekend. We want to change that with some extras.

Let them do their EuroCar event. The more events, the merrier, I say! And those who claim to have been bored....didn't see anyone yawning in the crowds I checked out at AMVIV-1.
For anyone unsure about attending AMVIV-2, do try to make it! Besides the obvious Vegas-y attractions, there are many fine natural areas to motor through, and the weather should be very mild.
I think it would be fun to stay at the Aladdin ...*hint hint*... what a BUFFET! YUM!!!

We have a good contact at Desert MINI (the general manager has been real nice to the club so far, providing meeting space and pizza for quarterly meetings) and are hoping to have them be a significant sponsor.
The biggest problem with having anything actually AT the dealership is that they have next to no parking. Space at Desert is very limited, if we had more than about 15 cars show up, there'd be nowhere to put them. So, we probably won't have anything much there, but we're hoping that they will be a presence.
Clover, I haven't talked to anyone at the Aladdin yet. I contacted the Las Vegas Conention and Visitors Authority yesterday, and they're going to help me find hotels that will work with us. We also have members who work at various casinos who may have connections to help us get good prices. Lee Ann (from SOCAL) organised the Aladdin event last time (which I agree was fantastic) and has offered to put me in touch with her contact there. I'd like to do something very similar again this year if we can make it happen. My biggest concern about it is that the Aladdin has been sold to Planet Hollywood and may have totally different management by AMVIV 2.

If they did and they were bored, then they just might be happier having their own event where they won't be 'bored'.

From the post on TMMZ board it appears they are not having a mini event, but rather a EURO event. And it does appear to have 2 different dates, so to me it's 2 different Events.
And to comment on the amount of cars they predict, with a euro event you may get those numbers, because how many people own volkswagens?
