Wonderful Cooper 5-speed that drives perfectly but has a transmission whine.

Second owner. Green with white roof, mirrors and bonnet stripes. Has the auto climate control, sunroof and factory 16" wheels. Oil always changed ahead of schedule (full synthetic + Mann filter), new tires late last year, new rear brakes (pads + rotors). Factory CD stereo has an iPod connector added, and we installed an accessory armrest.

Overall, this is an excellent car. No accidents, never even driven hard. The typical parking lot dings you’d find in a car of this age and mileage. Meticulous non-smoking owners for the past 5 years.

BUT, this car will need transmission work. It started making a whining sound late last year, and I tried a fluid change (MTL Redline). That made it slightly quieter but didn’t solve the problem. Since this is my wife’s DD and the noise wasn’t going away, we took it to our favorite MINI specialist. They estimated $3800 for a transmission rebuild.

I figure this could be a great opportunity for someone who can DIY the transmission. It’s a Getrag 5-speed and not the Midlands (2/05 build). The clutch was already replaced a couple of years ago.
