Trogdor the Burninator with 35% tint. The "Dragon Wagon" did not need tint.

One of the first "mods" (about +1/2 hp) to my Purple Haze was window tinting. This is a 3M brand mylar film, installed in SW Denver. Make sure your installer realizes that the door windows move down slightly when opening/closing the doors. Otherwise a 1/2 inch gap at the bottom will result and he will have to do it over again. This is common on some frameless windows. Tinting laws in Colorado vary by city, but they're not enforced very rigorously unless they're extremely dark or on the front windscreen. I had to sign a waiver to get this level of tint. I makes a huge difference in the summer. Here are my before and after photos:

In that photo, the Wagon is so reflective, it almost disappears altogether! It could also be called the Stealth Dragon Wagon. If the windows were tinted with highly reflective film (like chrome), it would be even more stealthy.

Looks pretty cool! It's a little hard to tell in the dark how much tint is there, but to almost any amount of tinting looks much better than none at all. In the bright sun is when you'll notice it most. What's your next mod?

I got my car done on Saturday and got 15% put on; the girlfriend says that its too dark, but I think that she looks good. I almost took a picture this morning, but she's a bit dirty so I didn't. After I get washed I'll add a pic of the new and improved MINI.

p.s. Zyamfier, do you really call your MINI Trogdor? If so, I just wanted to tell you that's awesome, if not, then you should.

 

umm i think i actually got the 15% doen as well, honsetly i dont know to much about tint so i just told the guy i wanted one darker then legal! haha and i cant wait to see the tint on your mini. it just sets the car off...ohh and this may sound stupid but how do you find the car club for your car (like the purple haze car club) because id join the hyper blue car club! haha

I had the feeling that I was going to get myself into trouble on that one.

The CAR has been washed at lunch and assuming that she's not buried in filth by the time I'm off work I'll get that picture with Tint. I'll have it uploaded tonight for your viewing pleasure.

As to the level of tint and it's legality... I understand that it may be a smidge darker than the legal colorado limit. As to the location I'll be glad to refer you to him however I'm not certain that advertising his services for the whole world to see is a good idea. It might be considered bad business for those who like to live within the letter of the law.

Is it illegal to install tint below the legal limit, or only to posess it on your car I wonder...?

I updated my post (the one with the before and after photos) with the tint numbers. It's 20% SunTek window film. Kind of dark, but I think it goes well with purple haze and the factory black behind the windows near the rear corner pillars.
