Bishops Castle?

Per our discussion Sunday at the Colo Spgs 5280 meeting/picnic/ride, here is the link to Bishops Castle west of Pueblo - looks like a fun ride. . .

Anyone interested??

This is a great idea!

I have heard lots about the Castle...let's move ahead. Some things you can help with, if you want:

- Pick a day that works. Check the calendar for existing events.
- Provide any necessary and pertinent details
- Send me your regular email address, I will send you the RIDE SHEET to complete which is a set of instructions for attendees.
- Pick a starting point
- I will get a group together from Denver to meet you in CSCO
- Maybe do the route for timing, and allow for photo ops
- Pick a point for lunch
- include the link

My email is jsouz@allstate.com - send me yours, I will send you the ride sheet.

Thanks,

Jonathan

When I get home tonight I'll check the social calendar and check with the entertainment director and see what works. I'll PM you with my home and work e-mail addresses, and I'd also like to take this opportunity to throw out a call for assistance:

I've never been to or near Bishop's Castle, so anyone with any firsthand knowledge of the route, sights, stops, etc. that wants to educate me, please let me know!!

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming. . .

Hey Bill!

I've never been either but my dad goes down there pretty frequently with the motorcycle gang so I will check with him and get back to you on some of those details. Dj and I are definitely up for going - thanks for suggesting it.

Hey, the suggesting part is easy - wait till we get around to the organizing part. . .THAT might be a bit tougher!!

Hey Bill, I would be willing to help with organizing it. Just let me know.
It is a nice ride. Also we might consider a ride to the apple farm in Penrose end of August early Sept.

Never been to the apple farm; sounds cool and I know the kids would like it. Early Sept would work best for us. . .but let's not get ahead of ourselves. . .first things first. . .

Bishops Castle - what's a good weekend for everyone? Open for suggestions. . .

The Peach Fest in scheduled for Aug. 19-21. We would love to have some of the Colorado Springs MINI's/mini's come along for a terrific weekend. We will be going on a wine tasting tour as well as a grap-the-door and hang on drive over the Colorado Nat'l Monument. If you can't come for the whole weekend, just join us along the way. Morning!
Well I just talked to the old man and he said that there is a coffee shop at the end of Academy Blvd beginning of Highway 115 right next to a shell gas station that we could meet at - or if I remember correctly didn't they move the donut mill from Woodland Park somewhere down there in that area? He said on the bikes it usually takes about an hour - hour and half one way, so it may take longer in a mini not sure. For lunch he said there is a little fishing diner place just beyond Bishops on the right handside. We are thinking of going down there for a preride to scope things out, let me know if you are up for that and what days work best for you. It looks like Saturdays are out for him for the next couple of weeks as he is finishing up some classes. You guys can take your bikes if you want but I will probably have to follow in the mini with the baby.

Bobbi,

I know the coffee shop - it's the Brown Bear Cafe or something like that. Easy to get to and right at the start of 115 in the Springs - good call. I could probably swing the bike out some Sunday afternoon for a pre-ride if anyone's up for it - hell, maybe Annemarie will even hand over the MINI keys so I can take that, who knows?

Anyone up for a motor/ride in/on MINIs/bikes sometime, let me know. Anyone have any preferences for the date for the actual cruise??

Bill

Consider perhaps

July 31 or August 7...

Let me know by PM your email address and I will send you the ride sheet to prepare. It is self explanatory.

Thanks,

Jonathan

OMG!
My Grandparent had a house in Colorado City and I remember going out there(from Kansas) as a kid and they would took us to this castle. I have never been able to remember what it was called or really where it was, but it is Bishop's Castle...ahhh it's nice to relive old memories...reeeeeally old memories.
If I am reading correctly, are you looking at the end of July or August? If so, we should be settled in our new home in Fort Collins and ready to roll!

Bishops Castle Drive

July 31 or Aug 7th would be fine for us.

Our Harley Group will be going on a ride on July 16th, it will be 5 mountain passes ( Berthod, Kenosha, Loveland, Tennessee and Vail) in one day.I will report on how that went afterwards. Gotta be more comfortable in the Mini than on the Harley
We might want to try something similar in the future?

BTW-great pics from the picnic Rick and Sean!

Even if you guys miss this one, let us know and maybe we'll put together an 'impromptu' motor out there sometime later in the summer/early fall.

Hey Bill,
Ok checked the calendar and does Sunday July 26th work for you for a preride to scope things out? We are camping the last week in July but we can do August 7th for the actual ride down there. But if it works out better for everyone else to do it in July, than we will just catch it next time round.

Need to check with the wiff-ee, but it's looking like the 7th might be a 'go' - I pre-ran the route on my trusty Honda 919 last Sunday, and it's a nice drive. I think I was about 170 miles round trip from my house, the stretch from Florence to the castle is nice smooth twisties. Possibly could do the 115 route down, go to the castle, then swing back up through Florence and then catch 50 to Pueblo for lunch. . .unless someone knows somewhere nice along the way to grab some lunch. . .I'll check the dates with the missus and then get something on the calendar. If the 7th of August doesn't work, how about the 27th (week before Labor Day)?

Can't make it on the 7th

I know I had said before that I could make the Bishops castle run on August 7th, but I was just informed by my husband that we will be in Sturgis that weekend. Sorry, would like to do it it some other time.

On a different note I was in Cinncinati last week and I went out to Kings Island to ride the Italian Job Stunt track there. The mini ride is cool and the signs in and around the ride were a hoot. I will try to post the pictures later.

Bishops Castle run. . .

Looks like we're gonna do it on the 7th of August, details forthcoming. I thought maybe we could run to the castle in the AM, then continue on through to Rye or Colorado City for lunch, but I don't know any good places there to eat. Anyone have any ideas, I'm open for suggestions!!

Jonathan - I'll PM you with my contact info. Anyone else from COS that wants to go, please PM me and/or reply on the calendar so we can get an idea of who and how many are going. . .thanks!

I'm in for August 7 if we're still on. Looks like it so far.

Questions:
Is this a picnic lunch or are we stopping somewhere?
I'm a solo driver, so if anyone out there want's to copilot, let me know.

Yep, looks like we're still on - I had planned on stopping at the castle, then continuing on down the road through Rye to Colorado City - there should be some eats there, but I honestly don't know what all is available. If anyone knows of any good restaurants in CC, please feel free to post. Otherwise, we'll just play it by ear!!! Worst case, we can stop in Pueblo on the way back for a late lunch. . .choices, choices, choices!!
