Wyoming Wander (14-15 Sep)

OK, we are working the details on the Wyoming Wander. It will be a nice overnight (14-15 Sep) tripthrough the twisty roads of northern Colorado up to Wyoming. We will probably roam up H287 into Laramie, then over to Cheyenne. We will make alunch stop along the way. We are workingdetails to get on to historic F.E. Warren AFB. It was an old Calvary base and has 200+historic buildings. We might be able toline up along the parade field and get some pictures. We will need some personal informationprior. More to come on that.

We are looking at a few hotels in Cheyenne to see what they can do for ourvisit. We are also planning adinner. Come Sunday morning we will wanderdown the east side of I25 through Greeley. We will be joining up with our friend of MINI COW, the new MINI club in Wyoming.

I will get some more details out as I get them. I think it will be a good time. Sign up on the calendar if you are interestedso we can get some tentative numbers

Sounds nice, an old historic but restored hotel would suit the Suiter's very well.

Pat voted yes, she is ready for a nice trip up North.

Will check with the wife ;-) I'd actually quite like to do this...I spent five years stationed at Frankie's Rocket Ranch and Game Preserve, and it would be neat to see how little, or how much, that place has changed.

If you think you might even have the possibility of coming on the run and doing the F.E. Warren AFB base tour, please provide this information. If you provide the info and don't come that is fine. If you don't provide the info, and then later decide you want to do the base tour, that will not work.

For the base tour, we will need the following information sent to Paula Taylor at paula.taylor.1@us.af.mil by the Close of Business August 29th.
Last Name, First Name, Middle Init. Date of Birth,

Then one of the following: Passport number, State ID number or Drivers license number with state of issue,

If you are 15 and under need everything but the ID number unless they have a learners permit.

What you need to bring with you on the day of the tour to get on base: Proof on Insurance. Drivers License, Registration.

If you have any questions message me.
Jim

Ray, John and I are thinking about doing this one. Please note, due to some technical issues with an old email account, I needed to create the new account under "mucgirl5280". It's still a work in process....

To clarify, do we need to send that information to Ms. Taylor ourselves, or are you collecting it from us to send over to her in one batch? Cheers!

All, reminder for thos that want to or are thinking about taking the tour of F.E. Warrent AFB you need to get your information in no later than 29 Aug. we need it so you can get on the base.

Note: F.E Warren AFB used to be an old Calvary base with over 200 buildings on the nation historic register. We will get a guided driving/audio tour and access into the base musuem. We will also get a few great pictures of MINIs in front of historic buildings and the parade grounds. Want to learn more.... Get your information in.

Wyoming Wander Hotel Plan: I was able to secure a special rate at the Historic Plains Hotel. The rate is $77 (plus 10%tax) for a classicsingle (king or Queen) or a Double Queen room. You can call the Plains direct at 1 866 275-2467 or (307) 638-3311 and mention the group code "MINI5280. You can also reserve on line at theplainshotel.com. again use the MINI5280 code. The hotel offers free WiFi and free parking(2 blks) and free valet service. The hotel as a coffee shop and full service restaurant.

If you choose not to use the Plains Hotel there are a numberof other hotels in the area.

It appears the Plains will be an excellent place to stay and the dinner options look outstanding too.

Have the ideas for a group dinner been finalized?

I will be out of town for the next 6 days or so, so I hope this is firm when I get back. no pressure, none at all.

Don

Ray is working the Dinner and the route. I'm pretty sure the dinner will be at Sanfords. There is also a good pub near by. This is all walking distance from the Plains hotel. As for going back Sunday, we will probably go down the back way, Antelope, Carpenter, Herford, Brigsdale, Kersey, Huson, Denver. I'll wait for Ray to post the meetup point, time, and route up.

Here is the plan for the drive up to Cheyenne. We will meet at 8:00am at the Diamond Shamrock station at 300 West St, Golden Co. We will head towards Idaho Springs then up to Winter park and on CO127/WY230. We will stop in Laramie at Boomers BBQ for lunch then to F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY. We should get there around 2:00pm so we can take a tour of the base. My Google Maps skills "suck" but I have attached a link for a map. I will also bring some printed maps with me.

I am working the return trip. We will go back along the east side of I25. We will leave the hotel around 9:00am. MiniCOW will join us on the way down to Denver then head back north.

I am coordinating with Sanfords in Cheyenne for dinner at 6:30pm on Sat night. If you can let me know some numbers that want to go to dinner I can provide them a number. Of course this is open for anyone who wants to join us.

Just a heads up, most of the Northern Colorado mountain roads are closed. Take a look here: http://www.cotrip.org/

FYI - Pat and I are going to cancel ourselves out of this event.

I will try to get a hold of Ray and Jim today and see if they plan to cancel and schedule it again for a future event.

Not sure of the conditions in and around Cheyenne, but most of our roads are having difficulty, I25 Northbound from CO Hwy 7 is currently closed.... etc. etc.

Diane and I will be doing the same. Probably not prudent to go at this point.
