I just drove over Berthoud and it is quite drivable. MINI is filthy now.
I've contacted Smoke'n Moe's to give them a heads-up on 10 to 15 people at 1:00 PMish. I will be meeting everyone there and driving back with the group.
Somebody call me when you're close.
Parking available at the first light in Winter Park, turn left on Vasquez and go in the parking garage.

I just put on a set of Bilstein PSS9s, at the lowest setting. If the route must have a dirt road drive, I may have to bow out. I am still calibrating the suspension, and running it on a dirt road may not be fun.

So, is there a bypass route to circumvent the dirt road for those of us who don't want to drive on a dirt road?

Oh I'm sure Don was just kidding Bahman. He likes to rankle people you know. Get them in a tizzy and raise their blood pressure a bit.

Just picked up the news....Berthoud (HWY 40) is closed due to avalanches. What's the detour?

Actually from the CDOT page there is no word on 40 being closed at all as of 7:32 AM. Even so you know it would be re-opened soon so it should not be an issue

Guess I will have to post updates tonight and in the AM.

Should be open by the time we get up to the area.

Chuck, thanks for the update.

Weather and Road Update

Chn. 9 says we have a great early day, some folks coming up from the South (Colorado Springs) may run into some light stuff later Sunday PM.

No dirt in the drive.

WP, 30s with a very light chance of snow, hey! It is winter in the mountains and this is the Icicle Rallye.

We will probably be on the way down before the 20% chance gets going.

Roads, nothing noted that I can find, going to CDOT now.

At this time: 5:45 pm, roads looks good and open going up to US40 to WP.

Should be a hoot.

Try this page for an update, click on the cameras along I70.

Edit: Gas in Louisville is 289.9 premium Conoco 91. Creeping up again.

I have printed maps and will put the line by line directions with the maps. 8 1/2x 11 approx. big enough to see the map glancing down.

Don

Too late to put my name on the event calendar but we will be there, David and I. We will take part in the first half because I need to be home by 3o

Hope to see you this AM, we will start out in a little fog with clearing. The mountain cams look good this morning.

I figure the fog will lift off 10ish or so.

It appears they have more sun early.

Mountain roads are still looking nice for up to WP. Our route will be a bit cool, wet on the pavement.

Road Conditions via CDOT

NOAA shows the incomming storms out west in Utah, should be driving over the divide I suspect around 4pm, we will be down the hill.

Remember to bring your Radios, if you have them. We can put them on our channel 7-21.

See you a bit before 10 at the P&R.

Don

A very nice ride, great turnout.

Link to pictures by Patty and Don ---- here!

We started out with 9, added 1 @ WP, lost 1 @ WP, and had 9 down after lunch.

I hope everyone had a good drive, @ Joe and Christina, I hope that drama calms.

I did capture a picture of suspect vehicle if you want to capture for your report, if you report!

Folks I cannot take all the picture credit, Patty is a fine photographer (I am biased), she was having a great time snapping some good action.

As for the boot, you be the judges of these three, Um... Chuck... No automatic win.

My take, roads up, nice and fun, missed a few folks in Central City, although I had a nice power run over to I70.

Run up 40 to WP, excellent but a bit interesting fording that river.

I70, stop and go. What can a person say!

Western Dragon, well that was fun.....

We (MINICHEF & old81) did Lookout road down to Golden, not to many bikers. Nice little drive, busy.

postscript

I would like to thank Joe and Christina for leading the way up and for David B. for sweeping.

Sorry you missed the turn, but I had a nice rest in Central City, good run to 70 and a great Starbucks break.

So, I have to ask, would this wing look good on Scooter?

Darn kids - bring back my park bench!

As for my boot, I'm crying on the inside. The Zen of detailing states "under every dirty car there is a clean car waiting to get out". Thankfully I released the clean car after I got home.

Thanks for the photos - look for proper credit (Patty) in our next newsletter.

Thanks everyone for coming out, we had a great time with the exception of, well, the exceptions. Thanks for putting it together Don and I hope everyone had a great time, hopefully next time we won't need to dirty our collective boots to have a good time.

Do bad things come in twos or do MINIs just not like to have things thrown at them (I suspect the latter). Not 20 minutes after our MINI was violated the light exhaust rattle turned into a complete roar. We managed to limp home (Thanks for the escort Jamie)and I jacked it up and found this. . . . .

Pictures later, I'm at work right now. The suspense is killing me

I'll bet it was a gator that was living at the bottom of one of the pot holes.
Perhaps a set of sunglasses?

So you know....

Today turned out pretty good.

I was guilted out by Chuck and Andy, so did wash/hyrdo - generally clean my MINI today, much better.

Also, David M. who is living in Mexico sent me this little updated picture, taken Feb. 28.

This is the reason I didn't quite make it up Squaw Pass. Gotta love having a spare one on hand
