Tech Center Lunch Thread

Well, by popular demand, here it is.

So folks I've seen that are interested are:

Jonathan (Jsouz)
therooster2001
michaelsuoo

Though this message goes out to anyone in/near/willing-to-drive-to the Tech Center for a weekday lunch. Jonathan suggested once a month, and that could certainly pan out well. I'd suggest a fixed day, maybe the second or third Wednesday. I'm thinking Weds because it's "hump day" and there's nothing like a MINI gathering to raise my spirits and make life a little more bearable. Gives you alteast two days to anticipate the event, and two days to talk about it after.

It doesn't need to be anything too formal, but we obvously need to have folks showing up at the right dates/times. We'll also need to work out a location. So far I've heard mention of Fat Burger (County Line & S. Chester St.), and I'd been thinking about Sonic (225 & DTC Blvd.). What more suggestions do we have? What dates/times would be appropriate for folks?

Lets generate some chatter. Heck, if this takes off, there's no reason why we can't consider additional dates.

I'm not in the tec center, but i'm not too far away! I'm just south in the Meridian business park. Someplace like fat burger wouldn't be to far away for me to get away to.

I used to work on that end about eight years ago Vicki, since then we've moved down to Orchard and I25. This weekend I went to a new pizza place down there on Lincoln road. If you're ever looking for tasty lunch drop in to the pizza place on the N side of Lincoln across from the Wildlife Experience. I can't remember the name just now, but it's family owned/operated and they make some pretty tasty food. I've seen calzones, pizza, hot wings, cheesy garlic bread and some kind of deep fried dessert things come out of the kitchen. The several items I tasted were good, and their prices reasonable.

Theyre a bit off the beaten path for most folks, so I'm not suggesting it for MINI lunch. It'd be better I think if we had less distance to go and more time to hang out. I'm also trying to avoid places with no room to congregate, we don't want to show up somewhere that we can't all fit into because they're so busy. So far Fat Burger seems to be winning out.

I'm in, and my mother would probably join us too. She just bought a 06 convertible yesterday. She brought it up to our house last night and was beaming...she would love to have a chance to show hers off.

Thanks for the suggestion!! I've driven by it a lot, but never stopped in! I'll have to try it now!

Aah, yes; Pats. Not bad food and pretty close to highway access. I'd nearly forgotten about it over there, good suggestion!

Still no mention of dates or times. I know that my lunch hour usually happens early, I find it's easier to get where I'm going and eat before the crowds really come out.

I'm thinking probably 11-11:30 for a start, and since we've not had tons of interest yet, we'll shoot for Wednesday the 21st. That's a whole week out from now.

Location still to be decided, what say you?

Location matters not

to me. I agree that either before the lunch rush or after it is best.

In good weather, I like the idea of sitting around outside (SONIC) and enjoying the rides....on the other hand, drinks are 1/2 price from 2-4 pm.

There is also one on Arapahoe just by the Honda dealer, E of Havana....

Yeah when the weather is nice, Sonic sure is a nice choice and either location is fine with me. But I won't be able to make it on 21st since I will be at Vail for a conference and I will also miss the drive to Mt Evans on that Friday. Also, it's almost impossible to get a few decent parking spots during lunch hours for our MINIs around DTC so I also agree that either before or after lunch rush it's best. How about
Grand Slam Sports Cafe

9660 E Arapahoe Rd
Greenwood Village, CO 80112

I think for our MINI heritage, I'd like to suggest:

Baker St. Pub & Grill
8201 E Belleview Ave
Denver, CO 80237
Phone: (303) 577-2790

It's an English pub with english fare. They've got pretty good food, $8-10 or so. Parking is meh, but we're small!

Alright folks, since this is coming near, and we don't have any sort of census, I guess it falls to me to make a decision. For sake of ease and seeing the cars I'm going to recommend a place where we can be around the cars. I've checked the weather and it should be good for Wednesday, partly cloudy and around 83 degrees. Not shabby.

I'm going to say that this upcoming Wednesday (5/21) at 11:00 till later we shoudl meet near Arapahoe and I-25. It's up to you guys whether we pick Pats for cheesesteaks or another outdoor burger joint, Goodtimes.

It's less than a block from the E or W side of the highway, depending on which we choose. With or without MINIs I'll be there from about 11am to noon. So, the question becomes Burgers or Cheesesteaks? Let's decide by Tuesday.

Friendly :BUMP:

This is tomorrow. Though in the future if anyone wants to propose another day/location, please do. It's obvious that no matter which day we choose, tehre will always be some who can't attend, we just need to pick dates they can attend next time.

I hope this has a decent turnout, it'll make it easier to plan the second time around.

Alright boys and girls, lunch is on for today still. The weather looks fair so far and I'm definately looking forward to it. I've recuited three MINIs that I know offline, and we should all be there.

Come and join us, won't you?

Ok, lunchtime is past, but I wanted to say thanks to the folks that came out. While I was there (11-12) we had seven cars, and it was nice to meet some new faces and talk to the familiar ones. We even got to see a SUV full of teenagers back into a beamer (t-bone), so that was exciting . Next time We'll probably want to pick somewhere with a bigger parking lot.

By popular demand we'll be looking at another lunch, and I've been asked to just make a decision and post it up. I'll think on it a little and make a post next week. I'm thinking sometime in June, but nothing specific yet. As before if you have suggestions I'm all ears via the open forums or PM.

See ya next time!

Well, based on trying to find out what works for the most people, I think we'll try a different day of the week. I wanted to choose a Friday, but the week I'm looking at won't work because of the Western Slope Run (which I'm participating in).

Instead christmas will come early and we'll do it on Thursday instead. That's 6/12/08 at approximately eleven in the AM and lasting till the MINIs go home/back to work.

Location in just under two weeks drops us on the east side of I-25 and Arapahoe this time. I plan to park in the middle of the parking lots between Arbys and A&W (Arapahoe & Clinton/Boston), providing equal ease and choice for quick lunch. Now, some of you familiar with the area might be thinking that there isn't much in the way of seating available, and that would be correct. I'm thinking about bringing a portable folding chair and camping out near the cars. Please don't let that stop anyone from enjoying an air conditioned seat in one of the restaurants however, comfort is key.

So yah. That's the plan. Location above, 11am on Thursday June 12th. Hope to see some of you there; tell your MINI friends.

Just a friendly reminder that this is coming up a week from today. The weather is currently forecasted for about 78 degrees and partly cloudy. Though I don't trust weather forecasters at all, so we'll see where that goes.

If you're close or willing to be here, then we'd love to see you and the car. Or even just you if you can't bring a MINI. Or even just your MINI if it decides to go without you, lets hope not.

I may be able to make this one! I love Arbys and haven't been there in a long time! Yum! Or maybe a rootbeer float! Sounds like a fun way to spend the lunch hour!
