The MINI USA route has you going on I-64 East (WV Tpk.) to Beckley. At that point you leave the Tpk. And continue on I-64 toward Lewisburg/White Sulfur Springs/WV line. This is a beautiful drive but it is a 4 lane highway. If you want to stop at Tamarack, then this is the route for you. It is a large shop that sells WV handmade crafts. It is located at the Beckley service plaza. Some of the products are truly amazing and some have prices to match. MINI USA states The Greenbrier Hotel should be a stop. That would be great if they aquired permission to enter the grounds, because it has been closed to the public for 2 years, unless you’re staying there. 2 hours from CRW
Scenic Alt. Route. Now, I suspect a lot of you would prefer a more interesting , read challenging, route. I believe it takes 45 mins. to an hour longer this way, but is worth it!! Just East of Charleston, I-64 combines with US-Rt. 60. After passing the State Capitol building, the 6 lane parallels The KanawhaRiver. Right before you enter the WV Tpk. , Rt.60 continues straight and I-64 takes a left sweeping turn. Keep straight on 60. This section of Rt.60 is a Nationally Designated Byway known as the Midland Trail. The first 25 miles is not much. Be sure to watch your Speed thru Cedar Grove, Glascow and Smithers. Once you reach CharltonHeights, the road becomes just what we’re looking for. After passing Glen Ferris and GauleyBridge, it changes to an in your face run up the Mountain called Gauley. After arriving on top, you will find on your right, The Mystery Hole. This is one of a few roadside attractions of this type still in existence. Watch out for the Beetle!! Stop and check the view at HawksNestState Park scenic overlook. Follow Rt.60 another hour thru lots of mtns. and twistees. Rt.60 intersects back with I-64 at SamBlackChurch. You can get on I-64 here, but I would advise continuing on with Rt.60. This funnels you into the GreenbrierValley. On the way, you pass thru unincorporated Alta. Rt.60 drops into the historic town of Lewisburg, one of the oldest towns in WV. The famous OldStoneChurch (est. 1796) is to your right as you come in along with Carnegie Hall . Yes there is two of them, funded by the same family. The town has many fine restaurants and art studios. In the middle of town, US RT.219 North takes you back to I-64 for your jump into Virginia. Chain restaurants are located at this exit. Lets Motor!!!
