Why in the world do people want a rear strut bar?? There is nothing there to reinforce!!! The shocks mount below the floor rails and the trail arms mount near the gas tank. Rear is a complete waste of money!!!
its a C pillar brace, and its not a waste of money if you intend on autox/road racing the car like i plan on doing this summer. This is not my daily driver...for a daily driver the rear is a waste of money but for track purposes you want the rear of the car to be solid to help through turns (in fwd)
That is a complete load of crap...Virtually all roll cages built for the Mini do nothing to reinforce the C-pillar --they mount just above the shock location in the rear. Rear strut bar keeps your what?? roof from moving?? waste your money if you like. The idea is to keep the suspension mounting points from moving--in most sedans it is mounted to the rear shock tower (much like the Mini front brace).
Close the thread please, i have everything im looking for.
I found a piece of 1/4" thick aluminum here in my shed left over from a previous project that Ill just make into a c-pillar brace. 1qwkmini, not wasting any money now am i ? lol.
I agree with you on the sedan statement though the same applies to most coupes BUT with the suspension design on the mcs the rear is basically loose and as a result there is quite a bit of flex.

If you really want to stiffen the rear of the car--install a roll bar that mounts above the rear shocks--even a bolt in is more effective than any strut brace....enough from me, don't imagine anyone can change your mind. BTW 1/4" should be good and stiff LOL..
I really do appreciate your feedback but when you say "install a roll bar that mounts above the rear shocks" what do you mean by that ?
1/4" id definitely overkill but i have the material so i might as well use it lol. I do EVENTUALLY plan on getting a rollcage welded in to this thing but not now

Have a look at this image http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u...2147/cage1.jpg. Can you see where the rear section is welded in?? The rear shocks mount just below that point and at the main hoop, the control arm mounts are just below where the mounting plate is. That is how to reinforce/triangulate the rear suspension.
Not sure about your autocross rules but most allow some weight reduction to compensate for the rear bar (rear seat delete)...save up your money for the roll bar--much better investment
Do you mean 1/4" wall thickness.

Have a look at this well done cage https://scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/...n.jpg....these guys race and win!!!
I see., some time next summer I'll be doing a roll cage, as for the bar, it's 1/4" thick (wall thickness) but it's a flat piece not rolled.
I really like the way that cage was made.
Ps second link didn't work.

You may have to find someone to custom build the rollbar --autopower has one but the rear mounting is rubbish. Find a shop that builds stock cars and they can usually make one to the design that you need.
I thought that this http://lh4.ggpht.com/_L0BOHsTS8Ng/Rj...0/DSCN0256.JPG was a good idea..have a plate welded to the floor at the 4 mounting points, then bolt to the new thicker plate--it is nearly impossible to get access to the mounting areas from under the car to bolt in a bar

Thanks for the links, i was never a fan of bolt in cages..but as you said its nearly impossibel to get access to the mounting areas from under the car unless you have some really small/skinny hands heh.
