Why not moving the meet to like the Edgewater/Hoboken/Weehawken area they have plenty of starbucks in the area plus for pictures you cant beat the NYC view especially in the spring/ warmer season..

^ Sean, I have several reasons for that...

1- Cuz the cops are jerk-offs, thats why ! I usually go there in the summer on thurs nits and you may be new here, but i have mentioned meeting/hangin out there during Thurs nite car show nite and no MINI was interested at the time. The one that said he was, disapeared off this site. Maybe he traded his MINI in, who knows?! ( Benfica01)

2- The last time i was there, we pulled in and cops pulled a bunch of us over as we pulled into the show parking lot. They were in the lot waiting to pull cars aside. He gives me a hard time for not having a front plate (havent had one for 3 years and never had a hassle until last summer in Edgewater) as if i committed murder or something. I wanted to smack him, as he was prob 15 years my junior. Gave him my "get off free Police card" and i think he got mad cuz he now realized i couldnt get a ticket ... he asked what we were doing there, i felt like saying "DUHHH, this car show has only been going on every Thurs nite for how long???" .... he then says, "there is no more car show, weve done away with it. So get your coffee and get outta here" ... We were like, what a F'n ***.... just for that, we stayed at the Starbucks for almost 2 hours
But it wasnt the same.... no car show that nite and they are/were ruining it for everybody. As someone "elder" i spoke with that nite said , "Gee where are the kids supposed to go now? What harm is there in hangin out looking at nice cars and havin coffee? Seriously, would they rather have people go smoke drugs in a park or something?" ... Real shame they ruin it for everybody. So i dont know if it would be ok to go hang there again.

3- Its a real pain to get there! I mean its not far, but its full of pot-holes going through Hoboken to Edgewater via the backroads off the Pulaski. I dont know my way around, so my co-pilot was directing me the easiest and safest backway to get there. Even then, he warned me ahead of time of a big pothole coming up several times and to drive around them.

4- And finally, well its tradition to do it at the Linden location. Its been at Linden for years, theres always Plently of safe smooth parking there to accomodate a bunch of us.

If anything, i was actually thinking of doing a new location a bit father south, but it doesnt seem to get much interest from the central MINI owners. They just lurk around and read these threads and dont give input.

Lorin, we'll do the Linden meet again in February. Sorry you got lost ! At februarys meet, we can discuss the posibility of doing another location

 

I don't mind cruising through Jersey City (Water Front) through Hoboken with a bunch of MINIs...people will look...and they're lots of people.

There's no parking in Hoboken and the cops are bad...

Newark is notorious for potholes (crater size with 8" depth) and they never fix any of their potholes...you will slow down...

 

Ah yes the car show in my hometown (Edgewater).... there had to be 100 or more cars & bikes every Thursday night. The cops sure did put the cabash on that! Of course there are jerks in every crowd that would go down Old River road to race... but the bigger jerks would race right on the main drag! I guess they wanted to be noticed... So the cops abliged and they busted chops about everything and anything... Sometimes there were 5 or six cop cars in the lot at once and they would block the entrance so you had to pass them and they could give your ride a real close inspection as you crawled by trying to get in or out of the lot. It was cool but it got way too big and out of control... It used to get so crowded with people you coud'nt even drive up the isles for the crowd of people walking around. Of course there were the fights getting out of hand too. While trying to drive up the isle to leave some guy had his car then head beat on by a kid with chains... But the good news is River Road was paved last year so the damn potholes are gone for now. So are the cars I dont know where they go now.

I do have a GPS..."GLOBAL PHILLIPINE SPOKESPERSON"...JOS does 75MPH on a good day as the co-pilot......I'm using earplugs when I drive now.

I literally live like 3blocks from starbucks in linden. It's a good meet spot, Gamestop is like one store away and shoprite is right there if you need groceries, then you can see a movie, and rent a hotel room...all in the same parking lot lol. I just have to work on getting a mini, but when I do I guarantee my support. I should have a mini within a month or two, as long as the meet is so close I will probably always show up.

 

I doubt anyone would mind you showing up before you get your car. It might inspire you to order or not order certain optins on the car. I wish I showed up to one of these before ordering my car, I might have gotten different add ons.

As for meets in general, I doubt I'll be doing much with my car till April. I haven't driven Clown for the past week and a half. I turned him on this morning just to charge the battery for a little bit. Now that I've got my computer working again I can actually design some new custom badges for Cooper Flags to make for me. I'm thinking of a carnival ride mfg theme and/or a Forza3 race theme. Each consisting of 3 badges.
