MissMoxie, I ALWAYS wave, smile, flash the lights at ANY MINI... not all of them get it though. Most do, however... look for the HyperBlue MCS... typically on the Palisades Parkway, down in Bergen County (Harrington Park/Closter area) and all the way up in Dutchess County (Fishkill) when working. That's moi.
I'll be at Jeff Cs tomorrow (Sunday, 3-22) for the smallish MINI gathering, washing, waxing and motoring. Hudson Valley MINIs... http://www.tshared.com

Hubby and I saw 4 MINIs today... not one waved back. We couldn't believe it

I'm usually in the same area you are (minus Dutchess County). I work in Montvale and live in Orange County. If you can catch me on the NY Thruway you'll find me there during rush hour

I'll be there tomorrow too! Not until after 11 though.

I actually got a wave back today from a simmilar looking MINI as my Clown. I was shocked! This after seeing 4 other minis today. Its very rare to get a wave around here, most of the local minis are jerks or oblivious that they are driving the car equivalent to a harley-davison and thus one must wave... whatever. I think those ppl should trade in their mini for a honda civic or that "migher then a mini" suzuki thing.

My husband and I HATE that commercial. We cringe every time it comes on

I love the assumptions all the commercials coming out against the MINI make. First of all that the reason to buy a MINI is to save on gas. Yes they are fuel efficient, but that is hardly the reason I bought mine. Second they know people wouldn't realize it is a BMW. How can you compare a Suzuki to a BMW. That is like saying, this neon cost thousands of dollars less than this Porsche.

Plus whenever these commercials come on I think ya they make a few valid points, but just look at the MINI compared to that strange looking thing.

There is also a lack of the "wave" down in Momouth county too, it really drives me nuts. Don't these people realize that they are not in a cookie cutter car but something really special?

I get waves back about half the time - and I don't want to offend anyone here, but I've found that the odds of my getting a wave back decrease the further north I go in this state...

Also - again no offense - but I get more waves back from 1st gen cars. R56 drivers almost never wave back.

It's OK - after 6.5 years and 132,000 miles of waving - I'll just keep on waving - if they wave back, great! If not, no big deal...

I haven't gotten any waves yet but honestly I've not watched for them, either.
I do see more MINIS all the time, though. It's nice.

MissMoxie, I know you and JeffC, BadMINI and myself (and probably a few others here on NAM) are attending MINIs On Top in June... you won't believe how many smiles, waves, high beam flashes and nods you'll get on the way and there in NH. http://www.minisontop.com
Can't wait!

Essex county here. Only time I got a wave back was on the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut from a Clubman with NY "GO KRT" plates- a NAM member, I think.
I always wave, or flash lights. If you're behind me I flip the rear fog on & off, but that probably looks like brake lights, so it's useless.
I'm gonna start leaving the sunroof screen open and waving out the sunroof, that would be hard to miss

All of a sudden I've been getting a lot of waves and flash backs. Its probably because of this thread.

I get more "Thumbs-Up" than waves, and mostly from non-Mini owners so the waves thing doesnt bother me. Im really surprised at the attention the car gets
