Were will the motorcade end? I was going to try to make it and see if I could get a couple of other Atlanta MINI folks to come but we have a big party that night (90+ folks so far) so I was trying to map it out and see what time we could make the party,
Sigh... In - Out - In ..... Glad you made up your mind and you're back in!! LOL!!
The "official" route ends at the intersection of highway 183 and 25 (White Horse Road). You'd be looking at 2 - 2 1/2 hours return trip to Atlanta.

For everyone in the charlotte area that would like to caravan down here is the plan. We will meet 8:00 - 8:45 at Starbucks. I-485 and hwy 16 (Providence rd exit) If your going westbound on 485 take ramp to hwy16 turn right at top and next light turn left and next light left again and Starbucks is on the right. We will depart 8;45 - 9:00. hopefully meeting up with people from Fayetteville and Pinehurst. Luke
Walkie Talkie Channels
Thanks Eric for the walkie talkie numbers. I have heard ch21, sub 7 bantered around before. Those were the channels that they use at the MOTD last month. Mine are already pre-set to that channel.
See you Sat.

Hey George I see you're on line - Can you tell the gang I'm sorry but I'm going to have to miss this. Went in to work last night and haven't had a wink of sleep yet. Back to back to back flights and I've got to do it again tonight. Also tell David, sorry but that part I wanted I'll have to pick up later.
Enjoy the food and the drive - maybe next time

BBQ bash at Century Mini
The bash was literal for 3 of our number. 3 cars found each other a few miles off I-85 while we were trying to catch up to the pack. See the attached photo.Attachment 13343
My car wasn't one of them but I was only a few cars back and thought I was going to be hammered from behind myself trying to avoid the mess.
This shouldn't have happened. Two problems overshadowed the event that had been great: 1) the route wasn't laid out and defined clearly enough that if a driver lost the group they could be confident of finding them at the next rest stop and 2) whoever was leading drove so fast that the tail-end Charlies were driving as though it was a Le Mans start.
The recklessness at the back of the line was really pissing off the people around us and they started driving like nuts. One pickup narrowly missed me and the Mini in front of me swerving into and then out of the lane to pass the line of Minis so he could give us all the finger.
After removing a few pieces and bending a couple of others the unfortunate ones were back on the road - home. 5 of us packed it in and turned around; it wasn't worth it. Too bad, it might have been fun. Truth be told, by the time we made the turn off onto 153 I wanted to forget it. The driving it took to stay with the group I only like to use on the track.

Chris , I agree having been in a line of 90 minis from flow dealership to VIR. We should maybe have a limit of l0 cars running together with at least one of the 10 knowing the route. When the accident happened we were so far ahead the i bearly heard it over radio and we stopped and ed called george. Once we out of town we did not have any problems and the ride was very enjoyable. We need to have a safety talk before each ride. I feel this should be top priority at our next meeting. Luke President Mini Motoring Club of Carolinas. PS Any thoughts from other members, please feel free to express your opinions!
Anne and Ches were directly behind "Kaboom" when the accident happened. FWIW, we drove approximately five miles trying to find the rest of the pack ahead of us. We also decided to turn around and head back home. It wasn't that much fun, with all the breaking going on and then gunning up to catch up. It really wasn't that much fun of a drive and after the accident, we decided it wasn't worth continuing. But, the comraderie and food was great!
Being that I have been in only two cruises like this I also thought we went to fast. I agree with you Luke there should be a limit of cars in a pack for future cruises. But other than than accident I really enjoyed the the trip up there.

Thanks for all the comments so far. We are getting some good imput and that is what we need. Sorry for the ones who didn't make the run to the finish. Once we got thru all the stop signs, stop lights and turns; we had a very good ride. I can assure you all that we will take this bad incident the make the best of it. It only takes one person not paying attention to ruin a good day. We are not putting the blame on any one person and hopefully some good will come of this. Any comments and suggestions are welcome.Luke President
