I ordered my badge and actually received my shirt today! It looks great.

This trip is like a birthday gift to myself, because my birthday is the 21st. Haha.

Had a great day with Doc. We went to visit his mother and I got my oil changed and cabin filter changed. Now I need 4 cases of Muscadine. Thanks to Dan at Grassroots who worked me in without an appointment. Life is Good!

I was at Dan's this weekend getting my new springs and sway bar installed. He does awesome work. Is the "Doc" you speak of Fermin? If so, he is a great guy.

Hey All,

I just got an email from the folks at GoBadges. It seems as though since the badge design was sent in on such short notice, the badges are not set to ship out until the 15th or 16th. I do not know how long transit time will be for them. I am hoping mine gets here to SC before the event, but we shall see. I told them I would spread the word to any one else who might have ordered or been interested.

Ruffcat, I do not know if you have sent me the maps yet, but if you did, I have not received them yet. No worries about it, just checking.

- Johnny

Flags have been mailed to the Helendorf, under Carol Ann Thomas, so it should get there in plenty of time.

Ready!

We are chompin' at the bit! I hope the weather next week is as good as this week. My wife is even looking forward to it. She REALLY needs a break. Supposedly my badge shipped late this week, so we should have that too.

Just so you can peruse the two runs and have an idea which you would like...

Drive # 1 - 2010.. led by Johnnie... aka laardilla
Exit the Lodge parking lot and turn right on to GA 356. Drive 9 miles.
When you reach the stop sign, turn left on to GA 197. Drive 11.5 miles. A few miles after
this turn, you will see a couple of traffic cones on the shoulder. This indicates you are
approaching the first photo shoot site. As you are exiting a hard right hand turn after the
second cone, you will have your picture taken as you demonstrate your skill negotiating
the turn. Smile!
Again, you will reach a stop sign. Turn right on to US 76. Drive 3.8 miles.
Turn right on to Charlie Mt Road. Drive 3.7 miles.
Turn right on to Bridge Creek Road. Drive 2 miles.
You will reach another stop sign. Turn right on to Burton Dam Road and drive 2.9 miles.
When you reach GA 197 (yep, at a stop sign), turn right. This road should look familiar,
because we had driven on it earlier in the trip.
Drive 2.9 miles on GA 197 until you reach the LaPrades Marina on the right.
Park and join us for lunch.
Depart from the marina and turn right on to GA 197. Drive 5.5 miles. Soon after you exit
the Marina parking lot, you will again see traffic cones. This indicates the second and
final photo shoot site. This is a fairly simple portion of the route, but will show beautiful
Lake Burton in the background as you are driving in your beautiful Audi.
Turn left on US 76. Drive 12.8 miles until you reach GA 75 on your left (there is a turn
lane, but no stop sign this time).
Turn left and drive 16.6 miles, then turn right on to GA 75 ALT. After 1/10th, turn right
into the church parking lot.

Drive #2 -2009 led by Mark Watson

• Depart from the meeting point by turning right on to GA75 ALT.
• Drive 2.2 miles on GA75 ALT and turn right on to GA348
• Continue on GA348 for 6.8 miles, until you reach a scenic overlook, at the top of a hill,
on your left.
First Photo Stop to Wolf Pen Gap Road
• Turn left out of the scenic overlook and
continue on GA348 for 7.1 miles.
• When you reach the stop sign at the end of
GA348, turn left, on to GA180.
• Drive .9mile until you reach another stop sign.
Turn left on to US129. (C)
(Group leaders will drive slowly in the right lane until the tails of
each group have made it on to US129)
• Continue on US129 for 13.2 miles.
• Turn right on to US19 at the Turners Corner Cafe. (D)
• Continue on US19 for 5.2 miles, until you reach a stop sign, then turn
right on to GA60. (E)
• Drive 7.3 miles, and turn right on to GA180 (Wolf Pen Gap Road). (F)
This turn is located past a small lake (on the right), as well as a sign directing you towards Vogel
State Park.
Wolf Pen Gap Road to Brasstown Bald
• Continue on GA180 (Wolf Pen Gap Road) for 5 miles.
• When you reach a fork in the road, turn left and continue
6.1 miles.
• When you reach the stop sign, turn left on to US129 (this
stretch of road should look familiar).
(Again, group leaders will drive slowly in the right lane until the tails of each group
have made it on to US129)
• Drive 2.3 miles, then turn right on to GA180 (C)
• Continue on GA180 for 7.3 miles.
• Turn left at the entrance for Brasstown Bald State Park. (G)
• Continue 2.4 miles to the Brasstown Bald Parking lot. Pay
the $4 parking fee
• Drive 2.4 miles to the bottom of Brasstown Bald (G, also I) and turn left
on to GA180.
• Continue on GA180 for 5.2 miles, until you reach a stop sign.
• At the stop sign, turn right on to GA75
• After 3.5 miles, slow down and smile for the photographer as you crest a
series of small, twisty hills. (J)
• Continue another 7.9 miles into Helen.

Great weekend so far at Helenblitz, the weather is beautiful and we have 53 Mini's and approximately 80 Minianics on hand. Tonight dinner and Charity Auction. It really went fast with the great weather and the people really enjoyed the drives in the North Georgia Mountians. So long for now from the Alpine Village of Helen, Georgia.
