I am leaving tuesday afternoon about 1230. May have to stop at O'Malley in Silva on the way up for some cool down time. Plan on being at Dragon before 7.

 

Carol...you know your room is waiting if you want to stop here....I even washed the sheets yesterday. but no jumping on the bed!!!

 

I think I am canceling my trip to the dragon. I just got a summer job I wasnt expecting so I will be working friday and money is kinda tight.

 

If you change your mind David the offer is still there. I got One from AZ staying the week and Jose is there friday or saturday or maybe both but we got room if you got sleeping bag or bed roll. Off in couple hours.

Just got back from the Dragon, alot of fun and really wished our club members would participate a little more in a national event that is in our own backyard. Rained alot saturday which put a damper on things, but not our spirit. Met some great people from all over the US and you crazy Canadians too! Lots of good fellowship, Dan from Grassroots Garage had cousin who is brewmaster bring up a keg of beer and was really great. All the accidents which occur seemed to be all driver error. Most were on hwy 28 Hellbender not even the Dragon. Only one from Upstate Minis Greenville SC area that I know off. MINI FINI wrecked his on 28 and guy from Indy hit a boat being pulled by another vehicle which was a little over the line in curve. There were alot more Motorcycles crashing because they all think they are road racers. I pulled over let 2 by and 3 or 4 curves later saw one standing on side of road, then saw bike in ditch. Caught his buddy toldhim that he crashed and seemed o.k., his response was what about the bike? Duh Huh! Missed the Doc, just wasn't the same without him sitting on porch listening to the frogs and sipping kool aide! Also had rookie Black MINI that crossed the yellow line and sent biker to Hospital trying to dodge him. If you go to Dragon you can have a great time just know the rules and use common sense. Our cars were made for these roads, but if you think you can run it wide open and not mess up, or that your getting better at it, then watch out, cause the Dragon will bite you! Hope to see more participation next year from the Carolinas MINIs.

 

Yep, that was geekswrath from our little group. Southbound shortly after the outlook, he came around a curve and the back end came out and smacked the guard rail. Most damage was done to his ego, but two brand new wheels and tires are going to have to be replaced, along with some body damage (right rear wheel arch was donated to the Tree of Shame). All should be repaired soon enough, and at least his MINI was still drivable for the rest of the trip. Funny thing is, he was behind my girlfriend and I on the northbound trek to keep folks off her bumper as she learned to drive the Dragon, and I offered to let him go first on the way back since I would drive her MINI southbound and he could get a good run in. Guess he just got too eager to see what his new wheels and springs would do.

Luke, great write up, as always, sorry to hear about Ferris' bodywork, RuffnTuff, missed all you guys as I couldn't make it this year--just not getting to too many MINI events with work and home life in the pits lately.
