EURO AUTO FESTIVAL OCT 17-19 2008
Actually for the rally you will need a co-pilot to read the directions as you drive. Doing both can be sort of crazy especially if your not familiar with the backroads of Spartanburg. Speed is not the issue as you will be docked points if you get back to fast, points if too slow etc. Also must check in with all the checkpoints or be disqualified but its a blast. I have run it by myself and stayed lost most of the time, but it was a hoot.
Anyone going down friday night? I am and staying at the Marriott for the weekend. I will do the car show, and dinner but am leaving the rally off this year, cause you really need a co-pilot that can read and see!
They start packing in the car show participants around 8-10 in the morning,. Each Marque will have their own area. All the Mini's and Original Mini's will be parked together or close by. Just visiting you will park in the parking lot. I think they are just asking for a donation for the American Red Cross. It is the largest collection of European Cars on the east coast. If its your first time you will see cars you have never heard of and some of them are beauties!
Floyd and I are signed up for the gimmick ralley on Sunday. The last time we did that was with the Triumph club at their annual meeting in Cincinnati Ohio back in 1991...so it's been awhile!!! We plan on being at the show on Saturday before noon to pick up our registration packet. We look forward to seeing y'all there.
For those of you not eating at the banquet on Saturday, Floyd and I will be heading out from the car show for an early dinner at Wade's in Spartanburg. It's an awsome family restaurant with good country cooking. Anyone who wants to join us motoring over there is welcome.

Just got back from the BMW Zentrum and I'm happy to report that not only will the museum be open
during the Eurofest event but they now have a few MINI Cooper items for sale in the gift shop.
I hope everyone comes out for a little while so that I can see some faces I haven't seen in a while.
Is anyone planning on any drives afterwards???

I'd love to but i just got word that i'm working this week-end plus this is the week-end that i have to close the pool.
Just a short drive to lunch. Then we have to get back home because my project this weekend involves a clay bar and as many coats of Zaino as possible. Getting Jack ready for winter!
Well it was really nice seeing some familiar faces around Eurofest and a surprise at Wades from onamshn.
For those that didn't make it you missed a fantastic collection of cars.
I'll do my best to show you some of the highlights with pictures I have posted below.

This was part of the traffic jam heading into the BMW plant at 8am.

Believe it or not this one was for sale.

Here's a classic beauty.

Want something smaller than a Mini?

Feeling the need for speed?

The Boyd's brought their very sharp looking GP..

Some took a nap after getting up bright and early for the event.

Even James Bond wouldn't miss this event..
Shaken.. Not stirred..

Hey Booboo that's one heck of a Pic-A-Nic basket..

Small cars come in all shape and sizes.

I believe this one is called a Saleen Ford.

Need to haul stuff around? Here is your answer..

Back to the future.

Talk about low to the ground.. I don't think this Lotus was more than 3 feet tall.

A Lotus Esprit?

Glad to see all you car nuts. Had a great time this year and congradulations to all the winners. Every time I see Bill from THM he has put on some mods and extras. For all that saw me get outbid last year on the Santa, tried new stragety this year and like to never got it in the car, didn't realize how big it was. If you didn't make it this year, well next year is MINI's & MORGAN'S for the Marque and we would like to break the record of 104 cars set by the Triumph this several years ago. We will be inviting all MINI owners regardless of if your in a club or not. There was enough money in the cars there they could have bailed out the banks! Beautiful Autos and one MINI got there late, but it was wild, and I will try to post pics. It was rear wheel drive, chopped and completely customized with Mazda engine and painted a beautiful Orange. It took him 3 years to finish it and it was a beauty. See everyone there next year.
Floyd and I participated in the gimmick rally on Sunday and really enjoyed ourselves. Beautiful morning, great drive, and brunch of shrimp and grits....what could be better? The only sour note was the last question on the gimmick rally's sheet which was rigged (had nothing to do with the any clues you could find on the rally route or elsewhere). The question could only have been answered correctly by someone who worked at the plant as it had to do with current cars in production....Floyd even got that right except for the car that he didn't know they stopped producing last month. The same employee (an individual involved with the Eurofest) took first place in the rally with that question. That same employee also won last year. After all the effort that went into this event, I feel it was an unfortunate decision on the part of the sponsors to allow employees to compete and to include a question that precludes anyone but someone with inside information to win. Nonetheless, a good time was had by all and we even chatted with the president of Smokey Mountain Minis and his wife....who we look forward to seeing next weekend at the Mini Boo.

Never been so Im kinda curious.
I hope its FUN
