Valve question?

Ok, this may be a dumb question but when it comes to the exhaust valves can they also get carbon build up on them like the intake valves? I know the intake valves get carbon because the mother is direct injected and the fuel doesn't wash over the valves. But when it comes to exhaust valves do they get carbon or does the heat from the combustion burn it away? Do people walnut blast the exhaust valves or just intake valves? Thanks.

for all of the rebuilds I did, I can say no carbon buildup like the intake valves. there can be burnt thin crispy layer of carbon on the exhaust valves but NO WHERE near the intake.

The exhaust is so hot and everything is burnt off that we don't get carbon on the exh side.
