Rear Bumper Replacement Options
Rear Bumper Replacement Options

When we bought our MINI, it came with a couple dings in the rear bumper... and the rest of the car is pretty much flawless. I have a couple questions as I look to fix the problem. The flaws are too big to simply use touch-up paint as a cover up.
1. Is there a forum / newsgroup / website that specialized in USED MINI parts? I was thinking it would probably be less expensive to pick up a used bumper (ideally in LY) from someone that bought a GFX kit or something.
2. If there isn't really a market for used MINI bumpers, has anyone had experience with the Chrome bumper covers? I think they look kidna hokey but I could be wrong.
3. If I were to go the somewhat more expensive route, where in PDX would you recommend having the work done? This may be a dumb questions, but I really don't have a great deal of knowledge as to where to get body work done. I have only lived here a couple years and never had the need for a body shop. Any guesses for a potential cost?
Thanks!
Matt

Assuming your MINI is a 02 - 04 and you go with DIY putting on the chrome bumpers, there is a bit of cutting that is needed. The factory ones, like what is on my car, have tabs that snap into slots that are cut into the bumper. I have seen the instructions for the bumper inserts and there is no mention of cutting for tabs. A Dremmel tool will make quick wrok of the job though.
Otherwise, go with a shop, couldn't cost too much to have them installed, perhaps more than they are worth though. NuWay is great, the owners and a few people that work there own MINI's. I've had paint work there, they did a fantastic job.
Don't know any one that has a LY Cooper that went with the Aero Kit.
Good luck.

Thanks all for your advice! I ended up buying a new bumper from a fellow NAM'er for $150 shipped. I figure I can have it painted and installed at the place you both suggested.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
Shoot! I was gonna offer to sell you my red one that I took off to install the aero kit.
Yes, Nuway is your best bet. They can do a MINI bumper with thier eyes closed. They do all of Rasmussen's, and did my car. Looks fantastic.
