sad and happy day

Hey everyone, it's a sad and happy day today. I sold my 2002 MC for $11750 with 72,000 miles. I am gonna get a new car soon (or bike) was thinking about an 07 mini but it just doesn't do it for me. So I'm trying to decide between a new GTI, a Toyota FJ Cruiser, a Scion TC or a Ducati or Honda bike. Any thoughts? I know they're all very different but they're the only things I like and can afford right now...

I think you know what you want, or you wouldn't be asking here!!!

Have you driven the 07 yet? Maybe you'll change your mind.

What about finding a remaining new '06 MCS? Of the choices on your list, I like the FJ Cruiser...looks like a MINI on steroids to me!

Yep, I have to agree with Clo. I've seen the FJ Cruiser big brother to my MINI - black with white roof. It definitely has a unique look to it without being Hummerish. If I had to have an SUV, I'd probably pick the FJ.

Follow the wisdom of Clo. Clo Knows. This is outstanding sage advice.

Go with an 06 Mini. They're still out there.

food for thought...

Test drive an fj. I was interested also and found the interior visibility to be abyssmal. Too many major blind spots IMO. As soon as they come out with a bike with 6 airbags, I'll consider getting another one. I left the majority of an R69 S BMW on the front end of a station wagon full of nuns, nearly ripped off my right leg, not to mention the 8 stitches they put in the left side of my *******.Sorry to be graphic, but bike accidents always hurt, some more than others. :impatient

Another vote for the bike! Man, I still want a Ducati Monster...I have a major soft spot for fairingless bikes.

I test drove the FJ. I liked alot of the features, especially the general un-fussiness nature, but I also found the visibility was pretty scary. It is possible that there is a learning curve and you would adjust to a new driving style, but we decided to shelve that idea for a bit.

I had an FJ as a hire car in Florida recently and echo the slight concerns on visibility. That said if another MINI is not an option I'd get the FJ, it's got soul.

You're all over the board with what you're looking at.
- Bikes are great toys, but lousy daily transportation. If you can only afford one vehicle, a bike ain't it.
- GTI is a nice car, if you're tired of MINIs, but want a car, it might your answer.
- I like the FJ, reminds me of a MINI on steroids - white roof and all. If you're tired of cars, take a look at it.

thanks for the advice

Yea, I agree with almost everything you guys said, that's the problem...but I'm going to test drive the scion tc, fj cruiser, and GTI today. Can't wait to see them. I would go with the 06 mini but I'm kinda scared of the cost of repairs. especially transmission and clutch. Never burnt out a clutch before, then I bought my mini and there went the clutch 25,000 miles after I bought it. Maybe if they shrink the body of the new mini i would go for it. Who knows what I will find out today? wish me luck
thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it.

Put the new 4 door Jeep Wrangler on your shopping list. I think it is pretty neat-o and probably comparably priced with the FJ-40

My wife and I drove and Fj thinking of it as the potential other car to the Mini. They are nice, but the visibilty really blows. Look for a cherry 2006 or a GP, you wont regret it

I have a 07 MINI and a 07 FJ and I like them both. The FJ has lots of room, plus the entire inside can be hosed out when it gets dirty. It's rugged, quite powerful and drives like a cadillac on the street. The only downside that I've found so far is the blind spots, but you can fix that with some little mirrors added on to the existing ones. I've also been told that it looks like a MINI on steroids, just as others on here have. Go with the FJ, they're very nice! You won't be disappointed!

If you drive the GTI do yourself a favor and drive a MazdaSpeed 3. Hang on tight!
It's like the Ducati of econoboxes...

So I drove the GTI, they didn't have any manual gti's at the time so I had to go with the automatic, I fell in love with it pretty quickly, and they had the new farhenheit GTI that only comes in the lamborghini orange and all tricked out...I almost bought it on the spot, but it was a little expensive. around $30 G's. I checked out the scion tc, didn't get to test it because they were so busy on saturday but I wasn't impressed with the quality, especially interior parts were very cheap and it is not very designed. Parts felt loose and the entire feel of the car felt American to me, not imported. But it does meet my budget pretty well. Then I sat in the FJ and i loved it as well, all of it. I had no idea how excessive it is. It has 3 front wipers!!! awesome. but it is a little out of my price range, the sales man said if I wanted it if 4 wheel drive with any options it would come to about $28,000, a little steep, I really don't want to break $25. I have a meeting with the toyota sales man on tuesday to test out the TC so unless that engine proves to me it can take my driving and if the interior bothers me too much I think a GTI is going to be the winner. All in all, if you want to check out this GTI Farhenheit they had it at the dealer and if you see it online, the pictures don't do it justice. My girlfriend sat in it and was going to trade her Acura TSX straight up for it.

I will keep you posted. thanks!
