Windshield water spots??? Anyone have these?

I just noticed today since my windsheild is now 'clean' that it has a bunch of water spots that don't just wipe off with cleaner. Anyone else have this issue on their brand new R56?

Oh yeah.. on the outside. If the light hits them right it looks like a bunch of drips dried on the window. I can't seem to rub them out.

Probably calcium (or some other mineral, like lime). Mix up some vinegar and water in a spray bottle, somewhere around 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar. The acidity of the vinegar will cut through the mineral.

Try not to get that acetic acid (vinegar) solution on anything but glass. You might want to have a baking soda solution at hand to neutralize it in case of a spill.

Robin has a point, and I wouldn't let the solution sit on paint for a week... but it's not that acidic. It's already diluted with water. Mix it a little weaker if you like.

Look in the detailing section of NAM for methods for cleaning your glass. I wouldnt be too eager to use Vinegar for obvious reasons of reaction to metals. We Dont want a rusty Mini down the line years from now.!!

You guys need to talk to your grandmother(s) about vinegar and water. It's "old school" windex.

Zaino has a great glass cleaning product that worked wonders on my car -- put it on with a PC. Can't remember the name but it worked wonders. Check the Zaino web site

It is also what is used for the Stop Bath in that anachronistic process of making photographic silver prints.

Acetic acid (vinegar) will exacerbate rust and may damage other surfaces, if left on. So, where the runoff goes from the windshield could be of concern.

My grandmother didn't own a MINI.

And I'm not suggesting he dump 5 gallons of undiluted vinegar on the car and leave it for a week.

Actually most acids will probably work. For example the odorless stop bath I think is citric acid.

This is really offtopic.

Well, at least he has a car to collapse into a pile of rust! ARRRRRGGHHHHH!!

Ok, the obligatory whine has been recorded.

Actually, I use a portable steam cleaner for the glass and other parts of my cars (wheels, tires,...) which are difficult to clean.

Hey hey... I did my time. My first car was delivered at the end of Feb without the multi function steering wheel so I had to wait for a second one to be delivered at the end of March. I did my waiting.

LOL! Good man fjork_duf. My hat is off to you. Now, with that said, please allow me the bandwidth to jump up and down, act incredibly childish, and make it all about me.
