Since gas prices are supposed to be dropping, I'm really curious to see how badly we here in California are getting reamed. Just yesterday I (still) paid $2.05 for a gallon of the good stuff in Orange County and haven't seen it any lower than $1.99. Heck, regular unleaded at the *cheap* station is still at around $1.75.

What are you paying?

Here in Northern Virginia, prices vary a lot from county to county. In Loudoun county where we live, it's $1.55 for the cheap stuff, $1.69 for middle grade, and $.79 for the high grade.

Prices have dropped about 4 cents over the past week.

I always buy the cheap stuff (since I don't have my MINI yet). I filled up the day before yesterday and it was $1.29. I put the middle grade in my bike and it was $1.34 the last time I got gas. At $2+ a gallon I'd have to buy a rain suit and ride the bike every day.

San Diego: Cheapest I've seen for premium in the past two days is $2.05, much better than it was a month ago, but still higher than the rest of the nation.

I am guessing that California is not getting rheemed by the gasoline sellers, but by taxes on the gasoline or the requirements of some low pollution blend. I would imagine that competition between the many gasoline suppliers means that they are only making a normal profit. The government of California is probably making the economic profits!

In Missouri I am paying about 1.49 for 91 octane and it is about a dime less for regular.

ADM, the country's largest ethanol producer, is making all the money. They paid the EPA off to require that California use an Ethanol blend.

Why is San Diego always 10c more per gallon than either LA or Phoenix for the same blend of gas?

Well, gas should be cheap in Houston!

I'm in Southeast Ohio, and paying $1.65 for premium. It's come down about a dime in the past few weeks.

$1.50 for premium at Costco in Tucson.
Every other place in town wants a couple of dollars! I've never seen such a large price gap!

The EPA has a standard for gas in California that they don't have in the rest of the country. Hmmmm.... state of California didn't have a thing to do with it.

whatever.......

jc

sounds like an evil business plot... I just love those.

Strange, But here in Arizona, Gas prices are falling very slowly in Tucson. The normally 20 cent higher rural areas are at least as cheap as metro areas.

Yesterday I filled up with Premium at Costco for $1.49 gal.
The lowest price I saw elsewhere was $1.83.....

Something strang is going on!

The war on Iraq was a great thing for the oil companies!

The state of economics education in the world is very sad.

The desire for a big sneaky conspiracy is very strong for most people.

jc

Have a nice weekend! I think I will go motor, hence causing the need to buy gasoline to support the conspirators.

Premium was $1.99 about 6 weeks ago on Long Island. Now it is $1.79.

If you head over to NJ, it's always about 20-30 cents cheaper.

Regards,
Red

$1.549 for premium, and that was not the lowest price in town but most convenient for me. Lowest premium I've seen was $1.499

$1.91 for premium at Norms Gas Station, the only gas station in Julian, CA. Very odd as Norms is usually 25 to 30 cents higher per gallon than the name brands located 25 miles away in Ramona. This is all located in the foothills and mountains of San Diego County.
