$60,000 in Mini Cooper mods for 0-60 in 4sec - SMOG LEGAL
HI, i just dropped 60k into an old mini cooper. it's a dream. Any idea where I can find a shop that will duplicate this process for a few of my friends for CHEAPER?
^^ what he said I thought go-mini's cost more like 20-25k...
and 0-60 in 4.1? That seems a bit blown out of proportion. I would think the thing not only torque steers so bad it would barley be controllable at the power needed to go 0-60 in 4.1.
The S2000 makes 240 HP NA. It only has about 120 ft lbs of torque at 9500 rpm's though .
You spent way too much money to do what you did. But nice
Sorry, I was a bit off. The F20C makes 153 ft/lbs of torque at 7500 RPM's, and makes max power at 8k I think. Gotta love not having any power until you get to 7k RPM's

I didn't catch if the blue one he spent 60k modifying has an LSD or not. If it has an LSD it usually only jerks 1-2 lanes over when you punch it . Without LSD, you need a 5 lane freeway
Yeah, the S2K definitely has a split personality. Sedate cruiser below 7K RPM, but when you wind it up, it performs nicely. I made the mistake of letting a friend who owns an S2K test my MINI. He kept trying to run it over 7K which was complete unnecessary.
Now, back on topic...
mini-cooper-restoration, did you do this using parts from Minimania? I noticed they have lots of parts for a conversion, but not sure where the 60K comes from unless you paid for lots of labor. Anyway, car is really sweet. Looks like loads of fun.
I dont know, but I dont see you making 256hp from that 4cyl vtec.... not without a turbo or supercharger or NOS.
actually it's quite possible. with a turbo, it's possible to do much, much more.

not true. the directness of the drivetrain makes it fun even around town. I had one at my disposal for six months and would have bought one had I fit (six footers need not apply)
i think your car looks awsome . that's more than i'd like to spend for the performance , but it looks way better than these new pieces that catch fire .
any idea what the biggest engine I can drop in a mini is?
I have personally seen a classic Mini in New Zealand that had a 454 chev motor sitting where the back seat used to be. Still front wheel drive too. And it was registered. You can register almost anything in NZ.
Wow, that's a lot of coin but I can see how it can be done. The last MK2 Mini I restored cost me nearly $30,000 to make it a 90 point standard restoration. And that is with off-the-shelf stock parts!
Wow you've done a lot of great work there. The work looks top notch. Although I'm sorry to see so many people turning old Mini's into Honda's wearing an old Mini for a suit of clothes. Just not my cup O tea. Me, I'd like to see an A+ engine in there.
My point was, the VTEC engine pictured, is not a K series, and not a S2000 engine, its your run of the mill late 90's vtec, and without some CRAZY work, will no way make that much power.

My car has been hanging out with a car exactly like yours at my header guys shop. Awesome car with insane power to weight. WHP for the one I have been looking over is 275.
My header guy is going to make an all tube chassis version based off this VTEC conversion.

when my s2k was stock it was a little slower than my 19% MCS until 60mph and then it took off...
Now its a completely different beast... :D
an s2000 is one of the few vehicles you could move to from a MCS and still be impressed.... now just don't be taller than 6 foot... or have any desire to carry anything other than one other person and light baggage
My choice would be to back half the thing with a turbo busa engine. I've seen similar running around the UK and with the light weight, they look pretty awesome. With this car, weight is the enemy.
