Doo Dah Day?

We talked about it earlier this year, but things have been quiet lately.
Let's start talking about it again and if we are gonna be able to do the parade.
Any suggestions?

Do Dah Day is May 19th

I went on a big shopping spree (Hobby Lobby, Hancock Fabrics, Home Depot) to get materials for our costumes & I was shocked that I could hardly find anyhing that I needed. I have all the materials to make the nose & whiskers. I bought some fabric on EBay to make a set of dog ears. I dunno where to get a sheet of styrofoam to make a set of Kitty ears as the Hobby Lobby in Hoover was out.

If anybody wants to get together one day & try to get our costumes done I am game

Noses and Whiskers are great. We DO need to get our butts moving on this too. I am going to call around some sign shops and see if any of them would give us a break on temporary vinyl for FCDF logo and website info as well as paw prints.

Does Home Depot/Lowes sell big sheets of styrofoam?

I looked but didn't see any but then I thought what in the heck would you use styrofoam for in a home improvement project so I don't think they carry it (but I could be wrong, it was my last stop & I was tired by then).

Hobby Lobby had a whole area in the back that should have been filled with styrofoam sheets (the white kind not the green floral kind) but every bin labeled to hold a larger size sheet was empty Do we have a packing supply store anywhere? Or MBE someone could check the Hobby Lobby stores in Gardendale or Homewood (I checked Hoover on Hwy 31).

There are only have 5 more weekends to work on this so I am getting a bit worried but it is going to be cold this weekend so hopefully I will work on the dog ears but I may need some sewing maching help.

I could work next weekend. Home Quarters (when it was around) had 2'x4' foam sheets, four count, plastic baggied. In the HVAC area.

Nobody likes the way I suggested for the eyes, so I'll be happy to let someone else dictate (and be responsible for) that. MAC papers sells foam-core sheets, or can get them anyway. They have a store in mid-town.

Mounting surfaces: the extended sunroof (if you have one) may be good for hanging ears. Maybe you can attach kitty ears to the cabrio's roll bars?

I would have never dreamed to look in the HVAC area

For either set of ears I had planned to do it like the Altanta MINIS did. A piece of felt colored to match the roof will go over the roof & then come inside & velcro together on the roof underside. (see them in the pic)

The kitty ears will be done very much like the reindeer antlers & the doggy ears can be sewn the the felt at each end right at the edge of the roofline. The dog ears are going to be easy, it's the kitty ears that are gonna be tougher

If you wanna work on it with me this weekend I am game. Just say where & when

I have access to lots of what the building trade calls Blue Board (because its... blue). 4x8 sheets of it, 1/2 to 3/4" thick. Will that work for whatever you're concocting?

MBE. 3/4" might not be thick enough I dunno. What is it? Is it sturdy? Is it like styrofoam? & by access to it does that mean you can get it cheap? If so we can make it work

Also will you be around this weekend? I may need you to run by my house or let me meet you somewhere because I need to use your MINI (not Nigel, allthough I will need to get Nigel's too when we go to make those ears) to get a roof circumference measurement for the ears I am making this weekend

Blue Board is sheet foam insulation (low R value) that is used on the exterior of houses, typically under vinyl siding. You might be able to sandwich some together with construction adhesive (aka Liquid Nails) to get the proper thickness. How much do you need?

I will be working most of the weekend: Sat. at Habitat For Humanity, Sunday in the neighborhood at the community center. Late Saturday afternoon would probably work best. If you need to measure MINI and Mini, you might as well come here since I can't drive both.

Door decal Mock Up is done

We will also have bamamini.com high on our rear quarterpanels & something across our windshields.

Working on the doggie ears as we speak. The faux fur fabric I got is almost too nice. I feel like I should be making me a nice fur coat or blanket in stead
