Brushed Alloy Trim; Sports Stripes and a Push

OK… I need some help.. and a push. Below is the MCS I have configured; only $33,630!!

I have lurked, looked and done all my homework and I am pretty comfortable with the car I’ve designed. Living in Los Angeles and dealing with the traffic, I elected to go with the automatic. This will be car number five for my wife and I. We currently have a ’97 Porsche 911 (993) Cab, a ’01 Porsche Boxster S, a ’01 Tundra Truck and a ’06 BMW 530I. This will be a nice addition.

The only thing I am having trouble with is the interior trim surface and the sports stripes (these are differant from the bonnet stripes).

I was looking at piano black but switched to brushed alloy. The problem is I haven’t seen the brushed alloy in person. A search only revealed a close up shot. So, those that have brushed alloy, are you happy with it?

And, does anyone have the sports stripes? How do they look? They are also on the rear. How do they look there?

And, I need a push to place the order. Someone push me…..

DO IT! I have the same exterior color with brushed alloy on the way. I've seen a few pictures of it and think it will be great. I also went with the rooster red color line just to add something a little special to the interior.

I ordered bonnet strips, but I think I like sport stripes better now.

Poke around for some photos.

I went with the Piano Black. The brushed aluminum isn't horrible, but it isn't quite what I'd want. It is surface application (probably aluminzed vinyl), not sheet aluminum. The Piano Black doesn't pretend to be something it isn't.

For stripes, there are some excellent third-party sources that offer more variety.

I don't see the Limited Slip Differential in your list. The 2007 MCS has a fair amount of low-end torque. The general consensus seems to be that the LSD is a must-have.

Given all the sweet options you've chosen, you owe it to yourself to sit in the black lounge leather (white piping). It's a nice addition.
Take the plunge.

LSD is not available with the automatic transmission. Otherwise, I agree it would be on the list.

My wife likes the black lounge, I was leaning towards the carbon punch leather. With the black lounge I would have to go with the piano black as the brushed alloy is not available with those seats.

Brushed Aluminum is just that "aluminum." It is not vinyl. As for the leather, I too think the lounge leather is much superior to carbon punch leather. MINI makes excellent vinyl and cloth for the seats, but the middle of the road leather are not in the same league as the lounge leather. With dark silver you can get the black or redwood.

i was looking for your Sports Suspension. given your other cars, i would expect that you would get this. i would recommend the rubber mats. they look good and easy to clean. remember to ask for the S version rubber mats (otherwise they will order you the regular version). this is something very personal but i don't like BMW/MINI Navi systems. i would get a portable after market for 1/4 the cost and it would be much better. But if they had something like the Lexus Navi then i would definitely pull the trigger. i would prefer the piano black. more stealth look.

I have a DS/B and the brushed alloy interior and havent regretted it one bit. The brushed alloy breaks up an otherwise dark grey interior and is the perfect accent in my opinion. Here is a shot from the back of the interior:

And here is a little bit closer shot by the tach:

Good luck with your choice!

There are over 10 million possible combinations but the combinations that work are less than that, IMO.
I like the black lounge better also. Only $400 more. Are you sure black lounge is not available with the sport seats? I can select it just fine on the website. As long as you select an optional dash, you can choose the black lounge. The piano black is just a default option I think.

I'd have to agree on the lounge leather...I would have definitely liked to add it to mine but couldn't justify the added expense.
Out of curiosity, why the cold weather package in L.A.?

I've noticed a lot of folks in warm places going with the cold package. I live in the mountains of VA about 3 miles from a ski slope and the winters are pretty cold. We rarely use our heated seats in our current car so we skipped it in the MINI. It's just another possible thing to go wrong and also $300 to use for something else.

I looked at the sports suspension, but it appeared that I was paying $500 for a thicker sway bar. I figured an after market set up would be more cost efficient. As far as the nav system, our BMW 530I has it and I have no complaints. However, my portable Garmin is a better unit.

I've had heated seats here in Seattle for over fifteen years. No trouble. Let me add one more thought. Since you are from L.A. I would opt for the Nav that is really a step up from the old MINI system. It provides traffic info as well.

Just FYI to the originial poster.....dont buy the carpet floor mats, yes i have them, and yes i love them over the rubber, but thats one of the few things that if you ask your MA {motoring advisor} that they will likely throw in for free...at least for me! So it saves you 95 dollars!

Many thanks for the photos. Breaking up the dark interior was one reason I was looking at the brushed alloy.

I agree about the white piping on the black lounge leather. That killed it for me. I liked the red leather -- reminded me of mid-century British sports cars -- but didn't think it would go well with a Pure Silver exterior. I went with the cloth seats. The black punch leather didn't look that good to me. Looked too much like leatherette. For the cost of the leather upgrade, one could probably get some pretty nice aftermarket leather.

The black lounge leather with piano black surfaces along with the Nav system will result in one classy looking interior. Add the white leather piping and you'll have just the right amount of the sporting touch.

If I was buying the car you've spec'd, I would not care if the nav system wasn't the best on the market, I would want it because it makes the instrumentation look like it belongs with that fine black lounge leather interior. To me, the nav makes the interior take on a look of value that far surpasses that $2,100 price tag.

As for contrast, I think if you added the chrome line interior, the interior surface contrast would be at just the right level.

What I saw had a plastic coating over the surface and appeared to be an adhesive backed sheet. Typically, these are vinyl backed. Yes, it has aluminum in it, but so does aluminized mylar. The distinction I was trying to make is that I don't think this dash element is a piece of aluminum with a brushed surface. I think that whatever the dash is made of it has a covering to give the desired look. The Oak option is not a solid oak piece in the dash, it is veneer on an adhesive backing.

I have an all Astro Black MCS with black Lounge Leather and the brushed aluminum. The aluminum trim is rough to the touch since its real aluminum and looks quite nice with the all black interior. My wife has a CR/W 07 MC with the Piano Black trim and the same seats as I have. The piano black is nice as well however I feel the aluminum is a nicer contrast and being an actual metal is nice too.

The other nice thing of the aluminum is that id doesnt show fingerprints and if you get a spot of something on it you can just lightly rub it off with your fingertip. Check my gallery for my interiror shots.

From my understanding the pre-07's had a plastic coating. The R56's are actual bare aluminum. Its pretty cool

The brushed alloy is available with the black lounge leather. The piano black comes by default, but you can change it.

I didn't get the "normal" stripes, as I intended to add the sport stripes instead. After seeing the normal ones (and the sport ones), I find the vinyl stickers cheap. I'll have them painted on later.

Hmm, the dealer sample I saw must have been pre-07.
