Window Tinting in Chicago

Hey,

I am sure this has been talked about before...However, after going through 20 pages of search results I decided to just re-post it....

I have a 2006 MCS and I am looking to get the windows tinted. I was wondering if anyone in the area has a place they would recomend? I'm curious how they are going to do it with the windows that auto-roll down?????

Thanks in advance for your help!

I went to Z-Tech, just south of Jacobs on 34 in Naperville, 630-355-9555. They did a great job and I have had no issues w/auto down windows.

I would get my windowd tinted, but i dont like how the rear side windows come out when its done...theres that weird gap on those round defroster-like things. Is there a way to not get that? does anybody know what im talking about?

but anyway...whats the legal % for window tinting in IL?

According to this article I found... nothing aftermarket is legal if you tint the front or front-side windows. "625 ILCS 5/12-503"

Also... according to the article, you can't hang anything from the windshield either... looks like I'll need to find another place to mount my GPS

It does look like they're trying to pass an medical exemption to this law.. I guess I can't apply for that since I drive a cabrio block the UV rays with the top-down

The way to get rid of the bubble effect on the top of the window is to paint that section of the window with black paint. I had a 95 camaro that had about 4 inches of that bubble on the top of the back window, and the tinting shop I had it done at, when I lived in florida, told me this was a common practice out there. They painted mine, and once the tint is done, you can't tell at all.

I know what your talking about, but really cant see my "bubble" till your standing right next to the car, Kinda like a 57 Chevy I had once, looked great from ten feet. LOL

Thanks for all the replies! Sorry I haven't posted in a bit! Been really busy with work!

Anyway, re-the law, i lived in Michigan all my life and they are very strict about road laws...I found most of the time if I got stopped for something I just rolled the windows down...It's not about 'tricking' them or hoping they don't notice they are tinted...That is their job, to notice things...However, i want them to know that I tint it becuase I like it, not becuase I am holding a gun or planning on injuring an officer! I figure everyone wins! I got stopped for the tint when I was young (17 i think) but I'm not to worried about it now!

Thanks for the reference in Naperville! I'll give them a ring!

Bose, I agree with you, I have run with dark windows on my last 4 cars, and lived in MI with them too. In all that time, I have been pulled over one too many times, have always dropped all my windows to give the officer/s a clear view and at night turn on inside lights, have never had tint added to tickets issued.

Tint them, drop them and be nice to the officer/s, motor safe.

Tinted mine, %35 on the front, limo on the back. Went to the Ziebart in Franklin Park (got the "I know Mike" discount) looks good, very few bubbles, even the back looks good ... no issues with cops. The %35 is dark enough to look good, and yet look almost stock, so i think that may be why. That and i just dropped them before he got up to the window.

And then there's my idiot coworker who didn't get his fronts tinted 'cause he was afraid of getting pulled over for it while driving half-drunk ... and then he went and straightpiped his Focus and got pulled over for a loud Exhaust

MINI Mark, if you just had your tint done, leave it in FULL SUN for a few days, and the bubbles will disappear. What is it with Guys in a Focus? IF they had just shopped around they could be driving a MINI. In fact most people that ask me about my MINI think they cost more then they do.

BING! Could a Had a MINI
