Tested the new cheapo camera at AMVIV4

Recently replaced the dead FujiFilm camera with a Canon PowerShot A540. Still have to re-read most of the manual to know what I'm doing, sometimes I wonder how I get by.

I attended AMVIV4 just to get a pulley, but I couldn't resist the UniChip.

The only organized run I motored on was the Friday Cruise. If it was any other time or place, I would have lost it with the traffic jam. Last year the FujiFilm didn't work for this, but I'm impressed with this little bitty tourista camera.

I was near the end of the lineup.

Normally a red light lasts about a week in Vegas, so I knew I had time to get out and stretch, take a few pictures, write phone numbers down...

Vegas street department knows the red lights last so long that they built pedistrian bridges across the Strip. Gotta love the rolling billboard!

One of the left turn red lights that lasts a month.

I think this came out pretty well.

Dee insisted I take pictures of her car. Here she is ready to head out to the cruise.

And another shot, pushing the too grainy look. Don't gold look purty?

I love this badge! Just needs to be about 4 times larger is all.

The famous Randy Webb, tolerating me posing him by MY pulley.

That's all for now. I'm planning to post a series of photos of Randy ripping my car apart. Took some of my before and after-the-install trips up Mount Charleston too. That's where I lost an A-pillar cap!

Thanks for looking!

We couldn't make it this year -- maybe next time.

Great pix, Kurt! I see that Randy has MINImized his Elvis sideburns and modded the 'do, too.

Some more pictures:

On my way, at the east end of Route 66, it had just poured bobcats and coyotes. Pea sized hail sat on the dirt. Considering we are in a drought, I am thrilled; but still a drag to have washed Swifty the day before (same thing happened last year). Also a good thing for this storm, about a dozen cops were going the other way within about 2 miles of each other.

Starting up the grade to Oatman, just ahead of the storm.

This is a really cool road with tight but rough hairpins. Can't imagine doing it in a Model A back then. Did a park and dash for a snapshot routine.

Friday, after getting the goodies installed, I motored up Mount Charleston to see how Swifty performed at high altitude. They got more snow than Prescott recently, had to drive on some! Making a case why I didn't pay to get washed.

I hardly took any pictures at the hotel, leave that to the professionals. Besides, the bright sun is the worst for taking pictures. I just like the colors, bitchin' car too.

I had to ride the roller-coaster at New York NY. Was touched by the 911 Memorial at the corner, which has several appropriate quotes.

I gotta take a break from this computer! I'll be back.

Looks like the new camera did really well with the low light.

yeah good stuff Kurt! I don't think I got anything good this year (was preoccupied with vendor stuff) so I'm glad you got some good ones! Keep 'em coming!

Webb Pully install:

I wanted to document an install, so here goes...

First tool is a jack, to put the car on jack stands. The weather was perfect.

Tuls did his best to distract Randy.

Two jacks are used under the engine (and transmission?). Randy did a fancy break-dancing move when he jumped up.

I'm surprised how much the engine unit can move!

Using a special lever tool to get at the pulley.

Now... I thought I was the only one prone to losing things. Randy demonstrates how intimately he knows MINIs.

The extractor jig for the offending pulley.

Gear puller attached to the jig, seemed like the bolt was a foot long (took awhile).

Randy puttin' it on! I learned what a tapered bore is.

continued

I'm so used to clicking "Submit Reply" that I broke my train of thought... oh yea.

Freshly installed, clean pulley!

Randy cutting a notch for the UniChip wiring.

Installed UniChip. Just need to button up.

Top of Mt. Charleston at the ski area. Some diehards left nice tracks on the recent snow cover (I miss skiing). Swifty performed much better at high altitude (and in Vegas whew!).

So, that's the highlight of my AMVIV trip (that I can post ). Thanks for looking.

Darn that Tuls using blondes to try and distract me!

Yeah - I cut my hair to try to be a bit more "respectable" - at least I got the look close...

Thanks for the pics!!
Randy
