first let me say how nice it is to see the mini and the cooper relationship going on and on.

i was responsable for a recent MINI event held in MILTON KEYNES (uk) and we had over 500 minis on site some of those where NEW MINIS  . what pains me is i asked both BMW AND THE LOCAL DEALER to attend but neither wanted to :???: . the total avoidance in relation to OLD MINI seems strange to me. without the old mini your NEW toy would be a BMW ONE or some other number.

I run a mini club i have driven both minis on the track and on road i would welcome a new mini with open arms to my club but todate i have not had one NEW owner come to a club meeting...... why is that?

i am told that and i feel , Owning a mini involves love of the car and an understanding of the social element (its a mini thing....) i know NEW owners love the car but are you socialy lacking as well ?.... no so whats wrong ?

i would love to hear from NEW OWNERS . this is not a bash up session i want NEW owners in my club but maybe i am not going about it the right way so please help me.. thanks

My guess is they wanted to stay out of the backlash that many classic Mini owners feel... Someone posted a link to an anti-BMW MINI site in another thread, I cannot recall what it was, but for some reason, there appears to be a lot of Classic Mini owners really peeved about the new MINI, and enjoy placing anti-bmw flyers under the windshield wipers of dealer-supplied MINIs at car events....

Just my random, nothing to back it up theory...

The Mini event the first post refers to was in the UK. There is a small backlash over there with the New MINI and the Classic Mini. But this goes back to the way BMW went about dumping the remaining Rover Group.
As far as over here, our Mini Club just had it's August meeting last night @ the local MINI dealership. It is great that they extended us this opportunity. They have no problem with Classic Minis and our Club welcomes ALL Minis and variations to our group. Let's face it when it comes to Minis, the more the better. We had a pretty even split between Classic and New. I really beleive that it is just a few not alot that don't care for the New MINI. Most of us love the New MINI.

mkmini, talking to coworkers in the UK there seems to have been a backlash concerning the new version of the MINI. They often refer to it as the BMW MINI.

MOALA (MINI Owners of America Los Angeles) has an upcoming event in Orange County. They have opened their arms to the new MINI owners. I don’t know how many new owners go; they are 500 miles away from my current location.

From this website I have seen MINI owners trying to get together. There is an informal event next weekend at the Presidio in San Francisco. This is a great forum to find other MINI owners and perhaps more clubs will come out of it.

If there is currently no club in Denver than I will be starting one once I move there and settle in.

As for the car dealers, some get it and some don't. The one in Concord has hosted an event to get the owners together, hoping to spark some of the owners to start a club or get involved in one. Other dealers don’t get the whole MINI motoring idea, such as the Denver dealership. I am hoping that will change.

I hope BMW will encourage the dealerships around the world to get involved. We all want to make sure MINI is around in the US and around the world for all to enjoy the motoring experience.

Hi mkmini,

Whether it's implied or not, there definetly seems to be a feeling of separation between the old and new. I have to admit that I would feel uncomfortable showing up to a Mini meet/club that up until now has only had classic Minis as members. I think the best way to get new MINIs to join your club would be to make it known (via your club's website, flyers, at dealers, etc.) that they are absolutely welcome and that they wouldn't get flack from the original Mini owners in the club for having a "BMW MINI". It's like the new MINI is a long-lost step-child of the original Mini. You have to let the new know that they are welcome with open arms and they are after all, family! If I felt that I was genuinely wanted and welcomed to a club of mainly calssic Minis, I don't think I'd have a problem attending. It may take a while, but hopefully more and more new MINIs will join you!
