Wheel/tyre sizes vs. Torque steer

Ok,
On my old MINI Cooper, there was no question that it handled better and rode nice on 16 inch wheels and 195-55-16 tyres. It also had little or no torque steer since it had (ahem) little or no torque! (Yes, it was like playing with a Schuco car, wind it up and watch it go... in a good way)

The new MINI definitely has quite a bit of torque-steer in certain conditions, especially if you are in a bumpy corner at speed and accelerating. (Sadly, alot of exit ramps around DC fit the bumpy corner description) So my question is what if one used larger wheels and tyres, such as the Alpinas below? THose are 18s, much like the JCW wheels. Normally, I wouldn't want such big wheels other than for the visual effect, but perhaps the torque-steer would be reduced with a wider contact patch?

... and, I wanted to see what people thought of the Alpine wheels on a MINI?

I had to think about this for a bit. Given the nature of torque steer, I would think (and could very well be wrong here) that better grip on the road could exacerbate torque steer effects.

Nice Mini ya got there.

my car follows every grove, bump, dip, in the road with 18" tires on it. it did not with 16s and did a little worse with 17s. literally the wheel looks like a ghost is driving it if you go over a bump and take your hands off the wheel..
