stock oil pressure sender

I am installing an oil pressure gauge into the stock oil pressure sender location. I have the T piping and all neccisary bits to connect the stock sender and the new sender. However, I got to thinking, do I need the dummy light? Is it ok to leave it unconnected? Will the enging think it has no oil and limit its own performance? Could I somehow trick the stock sender by connecting its leads or cliping the wire and soldering it together? I feel that my new gauge will be more usefull for spoting potential oil problems than a simple on/off light.

Well I used the "T" method, so I don't know how the engine will run without it in there, but I would supect it would not be happy. The plug itself onyl has 1 wire running to it. I think it uses the block as a ground, so I don't think you could fool it. I thought it was pretty easy to put the "T" in, just make sure you get it all tightened back down good. Mine was a bit loose the first time and I had a drippy-drip until I got back there and tightened it up better.
