Just put on EBC Green Stuff pads on my rear brakes this Sunday (did the fronts about a month ago).

I getting a uneven rubbing...squeak-ish sound when I'm NOT braking...and sometimes when I'm turning...and that would be SLOWING down.:impatient

I had Victor/MINI WORKS bleed the brakes today and he said the 'drag' is even and he didn't see anything wrong...and to WAIT.

I know, I need to but it just doesn't sound like a break in sound. It drags a little (it seems) like the e-brake is still engage (it ISN'T). I lightly pull on the e-brake if my rear brake noise (when accelerating!) gets so loud it's embarassing and it seems to help a bit.

Input? Guesses? Sympathy?

 

No thoughts, eh? Hmmm...guess I'll take them off and check it out.

 

Did you bed the pads in after installing? Check the runout of the rotors?

It's also possible that there's something between the rotor and pads, as well - few things sound as evil as a pebble or other foreign object trapped between a rotor and a brake pad...

 

Thanks for the input. Since I am a newbie, I don't know what "bed the pads" or "check the runout of the rotors" means.

It seems like something might be wedged or stuck...it doesn't sound damaging...more like a chunk of pad or rubber?

I think taking them apart makes sense. If you can shed some light on the first two steps you mentioned, I'd love to have some other options!

Not bedding them in can lead to some of the annoying sounds you are hearing, as well as other maladies.

Checking the runout of the rotors involves spinning them and measuring variation in thickness - this can point to issues with pad transfer (or warping, if you believe in warped rotors), which can cause something like the dragging sound you're describing.
