Compare/Contrast Different Intakes

I'd like to get a new intake to go along with my ALTA 15% pulley, but there are just so many out there to choose from... I am hoping that I could get some first-hand opinons/impressions and pros/cons.

It seems like a lot of people here have the ALTA, but I'm not so sure it's for me, based on what I've read here. I don't want a really LOUD intake like how the ALTA has been described.... Ideally, I'd like one that isn't really noisy at idle or steady cruising, but really opens up when I step on the gas and makes the supercharger scream. Some people have described the JCW like that, but I'd rather not have to get above 4500 rpm just to get that sound.

I found eleven different manufacturers:

ALTA
Helix
Mini-Madness
JCW
Cravenspeed
aFe
K&N Typhoon
Mini-Mania Ultrik
Pilo
Dinan
DDM

Any and all helpful posts are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You forgot M7/DDM, Dinan, GTTuning, & Webb RAF.

Based on you're factors, I'd say try the Dinan, Webb, DDM, Alta w/ lid, or maybe the Craven...haven't heard anything about it...all of the preceding have tops/lids

Thanks. I added DDM and Dinan to my original post.

I couldn't find much on the Webb RAF, even on Webb's website. I don't see it for sale, even. Is it a full intake system, or just the box? (to use with a separate intake system)

Pardon my ignorance, but is the Dinan similar at all to the JCW? Just wondering because of BMW-related reasons....

The GT Tuning intake looked good, but the currency conversion prices it at over $300 (not including shipping from the UK) which is probably more than I wanted to spend.

I am getting a Webb 15% Pulley and Sportbox RAF installed tomorrow. Soooo excited! Seems to me RAF has the latest innovation/technology to date. You can read more about it on the threads below. Good luck!

I have the Alta w/ lid and absolutely love it. It is a bit on the loud side but I think thats why I like it the most. You can def. here it coming, but its that good ol' supercharger whine that I love so much. Probably the loudest of all the intakes out there.

I hope the Alta is as loud as everyone says, cause I can't hear my SC anymore over my exhaust and I miss the sound.

Now try doing a search for those names as well try "CAI" - there is tons of information - no need to rehash.

I would recommend Alta, though I haven't compared it with any others. It's fine at idle and at steady cruising and only screams like a biatch when you put pedal to **** pile. Boy, does it scream! After I did my one ball (and straightened the congestion in the muffler), my exhaust is dead quiet and all I (and anyone outside of the car) hears is a pronounced 'eeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhh' when the car is on the boil (on track only, of course, ha ha. On the road, I now glide past people whisper quiet, like a Lexus). I even know a couple of people now who have taken out their JCW box and installed the Alta.

I like the sound of Randy's supercharger whining (and his exhaust) from his youtube video of his mule at Laguna Seca though! I don't think that's an Alta!
